This use to be my favorite place as a child. Now it's just a sad story :(…read more
My dad bought my birthday cake from there today for old times sake. He spent 30$ for an ice cream cake with my 4 letter real name on it, and it gave 10 slices.
I felt so bad that he wasted his money on this, because it was a very sad looking and tasting cake. First of all, the decorations were of something anyone could do at home. Those actual old school chocolate line spinkles all along the side, and round rainbow sprinkles ontop, a layer of chocolate syropy icing, and colorful icing baloons, and happy birthday rana in hand written icing on top. That right there.. like.. why would a business choose to decorate like that lol that's the kind of short cut a grocery store would do... why here lol yeah, that right there is not 30$ worthy... I'm sorry. Rip off.
The cake was completely made out of regular ol' chocolate ice cream, nothing special at all. My dad remarked that he was tempted to just buy 3 containers full of actual ice cream flavors instead, because their price was the same together as that cake, but he held back because of the bday thing, and he really wanted to buy me a cake...
The ice cream cake itself didn't even seem to have been made properly. It was overly soft, even right after sitting in our freezer for 3 hours. The Knife went right through, and slipped off all the toppings, and crushed the overly tender soft ice cream. It was very strange. Usually when we buy ice cream cakes, it's very hard to cut cause it's so solid, so we wet the blade. This cake... was as if it was purposely made with soft serve ice cream, but it didn't really taste all that good or sweet. Very plain, and very cheap tasting, which is such a shame for the high price they charged. We could have went next door to rockaberries for a pie cake which would have costed less even but at least have some taste and is a little more eye appealing.
A pastry trained person that was with us explained that this could not have been made with soft served icecream even, because it's been in the freezer for too long to even stay that soft the entire time, and therefore there must have been a mistake in the process of it's making at the store. I don't know if that is accurate, all I know was that the cake was not just a fail, but also it's entire concept was very plain jane for it's price and yeld. (Also, the cake itself kept on slipping side to side on it's base! We couldn't even move it back to the center by sliding a wide knife under, as it was completely soft)
I'm kind of upset really, because this store use to be the highlight of my childhood. Did they plumit down since then? Or were they always this bad, and I just never noticed because I didn't know any better as a kid? If so, I feel so horrible for all the cakes my dad bought there... a total rip off for parents... This store needs some pride.
