A friend of a friend had said, why not try this place, they have good food and on Sundays there is…read moremusic mid-afternoon and on into the evening...well why not? So we drove there, got lost, went back, found the correct road and went to the end...cul-de-sac with limited parking to say the least...quick about turn, back down the hill to a very small car park and got the very last space....there is an overflow car park but it shuts early. Good thing we arrived before our reservation So up the hill on foot, down the other side to the beach and left to the Beach Bar. Its a simple construction: room / terrace / beach overflow. A bit windy, but sunny and we had been told that there would be no room outside at our 15:45 slot but as it happened there was a spare table - a few in from the first entrance...that turned out to be perfect...you do not want to be closer First, the service from all waiters and waitresses was superb - top notch, friendly, efficient, knowledgeable The food: we shared a starter of tempura prawns, we both ordered the roast beef (of which more later), a couple of glasses of wine, water, cheesecake, a brownie and coffees. Total €85 - our most expensive meal for the whole holiday. Was it worth it - absolutely. We had every intention of having fish (it looked delicious) but we sort of got tempted by the beef especially as we could order rare and well done...and it was; hardly ever happens. Delicious, loads of veggies too. The rest of the food was also excellent...the atmosphere, service, food all made for a really lovely day out. Way above expectations (Wow too to the two girls (twins?) out with their parents and younger brother to our left - they ordered the octopus and cleared their plates...its so good to see kids a) behaving in restaurants (which they can find boring and restraining) and b) being "food educated" at an early stage and not just getting the first hamburger or fish and chips on the menu. Our boys learned on repeated visits over many years to try things at Le Lion d'Or in Arcins when Maitre Barbier was the owner/chef - and you didn't mess with him! result, they eat just about everything and will at least try) There is a but..two actually The band (started around 16:30) was OK, shame about the singer, but I think it was her band..ah well, it was still fun Why is that that all the (mostly non-eating, drinking only) Brits gathered on the minute dance floor and proceeded to take selfies or video the group (really?) the whole time they were on...thus preventing just about everyone else from seeing anything.. Not sure this would be so fun in the summer with the beach part in full swing too...but on a lovely day in October it was excellent

We popped in to Taffy's Bar and Grill in Praia da Richard as it was one of the few places open…read moreduring siesta, and I had a hunger on that wouldn't make it to dinner. Didn't need a whole lot, just something to quell the stomach grumbles. Taffy's fit the bill though not on a way we expected. There were two tables sat at the street level and no one else in the place. When we walked up the stairs a very nice young lady, with what tuned out to be a Welsh accent, greeted us and said of course they are open. There is a major, soccer, or football as it's called here vibe to the place. It even listed one of the more important matches on the blackboard in case you are looking for some footy while travelling in the Algarve. We ordered a bottle of wine and some nachos feeling that would tide me over as the lovely K professed to not be hungry. The wine arrived quickly, and while opening we could out our server is 50% Portuguese but was born in Wales to a Welsh mother. Shortly thereafter our nachos arrived, and while visually disappointing they were actually pretty tasty. Store bought chips, which seems to be a thing in Portugal with the two sets we have ordered. That said it hit the spot, was not expensive, and our server Jade made the entire experience great!

This was my first trip to Portugal and to Praia da Rocha. We chose this place, initially, to eat,…read morebecause of the breakfast reviews that we saw. But we came back, again and again, because we loved the food that we had and the waitstaff, a Emma and Jake, were amazing. They helped my husband and I, as Americans, ease more efficiently into this new and different culture. They always made us fell so welcome. The omelettes were delicious. I had mushroom, cheese and tomatoes. The baked salmon, that I had another time, was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Then I had a warm chocolate cake for dessert...oh my!!! Superb! And I tried a full Irish breakfast. It had a lot of pork and I normally eat heart smart, so I didn't eat it all. But at least I can say that I tried it. If you are in the area, please stop by. You will not be disappointed.
