The sort of shop where you can probably pick up a week's food for a tenner. Whether it'll be good for you is another matter. A store that serves it's purpose well, albeit in ready meal styles. read more

Water, milk, soda, sparkling wine, red wine, pasta, bread, steaks, blue cheese, fruit and veggies. Some snacks for our doggie. As usual we found everything we needed and as usual for the same good quality and prices. Another enjoyable shopping experience at Tesco.

Especially for students not owning cars or bikes, Morrisons can be quite a long walk out. That aside, the store offers most of the items one would expect to find in a well-run supermarket. Things they didn't have tonight included a jar of mincemeat and individual foil cases. Given the size of the store this really surprised me. I was in at around 8pm and wandered aimlessly for ages (genuinely about 10 minutes) trying to find a member of staff to ask about the above items. Eventually when I tracked someone down they had no idea where I'd get either of the things, so I gave up and went to another supermarket! Not good enough Tesco, I dread to think what it would be like nearer Christmas!

We've had their tasty Indian Curry meals to take-out before and checked if they got them here. And we were lucky. Nice Indian Curry, Samosa, Naan and more. Ready-made, still hot. Think about it - you've landed, got through security and grabbed your bags, you're tired, quite possibly hungry and you just need things to be easy for ten minutes. Convenience is king. This is especially true when the options available include M&S so you can feel like, even though the holiday is over and you're back too late to cook a real meal, at least it'll be a nice ready meal that you're buying. Sure, it's pricey, but you're not quite ready to quit holiday mode just yet. This branch is pretty tiny, but it has all the essentials. The staff are pretty great too and get through the queues rapidly. I'll definitely remember that it's here for the next time I travel.

Before a flight, of course you can't buy liquids but I was thrilled to see they have my favorite breakfast - boiled eggs with fresh spinach!! I've grabbed these at Pret at other airports - but sadly the Eats in Edinburgh airport don't have them - but I can now get it at M&S before going through security. When arriving back in Edinburgh, it's great for grabbing some essentials so you don't have to go to the grocery store on your first day back. Missing star is because there isn't much fresh produce (mostly sandwiches, milk. crisps, drinks...) but it has so much more than was ever at the airport before.

ASDA

Unless you have a car, then the big Tesco in New Town or the big Asda over by the Corn Exchange are a pain to get to, which means that this is where you'll head when you need a big shop. As well as all the usual food and grocery-related stuff this branch also offers a pharmacy, a household section, clothing, a bakery, a cheese counter as well as a butcher/fishmonger counter. It just so happens to be housed within the world's ugliest shopping centre, Cameron Toll. But don't let that put you off; with free parking and good bus links this is a pretty handy one as far as supermarkets go. Just avoid it at the beginning of all the uni terms, as it's packed to the rafters with students accompanied by their doting mums buying them enough food to last them until the next holidays and then some.
This is an absolutely massive Sainsbury's and is the best thing about the Cameron Toll centre by…read morequite a way. It is in a great location for students as well as it is near the Kings Buildings and therefore many people get flats in the area. Sainsbury's therefore get a good amount of younger customers. The store really does allow you to save a lot of money because if you go to the smaller branches of supermarkets such as Tesco Metro or Sainsbury's local, they tend to concentrate on stocking branded items rather than the cheaper Sainsbury's brands. I mean I really can't tell that much difference between Sainsnury's own baked beans than Heinz beans, and this shop would allow you to get these cheaper options. The shop also has a great range of clothes items and home items and would sure to be of great use at picking up some bargains for the house.

Sainsburys also have a basics range and there own branded products. They have special offers weekly i think they change on a Wednesday there offers are kept on the ends of the aisles so you can see clearly as you walk through the shop instead of walking up every aisle.
