Some beautiful pieces inside, seashore themed, are for sale in all various sizes, shapes and colors. Stopped in here during a recent visit to town. My wife loves glass blowing and any time I run across a small studio like this where they are actually blowing glass on site, we stop. Our visit to Icefire was great. Both Jim and Suzanne were blowing glass this day. Jim came out during the process of Suzanne blowing a piece to explain things while she worked, then returned to assist for a bit, then came back out to talk more. I found Jim very personable and easy to talk to, a welcoming soul willing to share his passion. Suzanne was also very kind and chatted with us at length about various pieces, the thought process and inspirations. It was a very enjoyable experience that you don't get at some studios, or in the larger setting of the Tacoma Glass Museum. My wife and I came back the following day to purchase the piece Suzanne blew. We are very excited to have this memento of our 25th anniversary trip. They have a stunning array of pieces from different artists, reflecting different styles and colors. I especially love the lavender pieces since they're uncommon. It is truly mesmerizing how talented the artists are. The owners are friendly and helpful, too. I wish I had grabbed a starfish because apparently they are under $100? I didn't want to touch any of the art so I wasn't aware of the price (the sticker is underneath it). I could have asked, but I just kind of assumed it would be something out of my price range. This gallery missed the mark a bit for me. Yes, it is nice to watch artists blowing glass, but I've had a better experience both watching and taking a class to create my own object at Jennifer Sears Glass Art Studio in Lincoln City (http://www.yelp.com/biz/jennifer-sears-glass-art-studio-lincoln-city?osq=glass+blowing). This gallery typically has four artists' work on display, but I didn't feel there was anything I couldn't leave without. Mixed feelings on this studio, and I will try to describe my complete experience without too much bias to the last visit which was less than stellar. First, I'm a somewhat frequent visitor to the studio. I've had the opportunity to speak with Jim at some length about his Northern Lights collection (and some of his interests prior to Icefire), as well as witness both Jim and Suzanne birthing pieces from hot glass in the studio. If you haven't had a chance to witness it, it's quite fascinating. I will also tell you, each artist clearly has their own style as once you've seen their other works, you can quickly gauge who the artist is in viewing any item in the gallery. It's amazing how quick/continuous the action seems/needs to be to before it cools. Based on the level of work, uniqueness, and in no small part the customer experience, I'm also a repeat customer who owns some of their work. Last visit (today) I had the opportunity to take my family in here. Wasn't as great of an experience. We weren't greeted upon entry (we were the only customers in there) and were never asked if we were looking for anything or had any questions. If she was listening it probably would have been apparent from the dialogue between my wife and I, that we were customers, or that at least we had an interest/knowledge of the studio itself. Kicker was a couple minutes in, when I asked my son (who hadn't touched or even moved towards a piece) if he wanted to sit in the chair near the door (presumed to be staged there to be used). I was quickly alerted that "the chair slides". When I asked if that meant the chair was not to be sat in, which would have been fine--no problem with that being code for: I'm not comfortable with your/any child in that chair, she walked out to show (and tell me) that, "There is artwork behind the chair. See?" I get it, you never know what kind of kids (and their behavior) are coming into the studio. Also get it, glass is very breakable--I'm sure there's been a couple occasions where things have been broken and prevention is the best option. That said, it should have been pretty apparent after a couple of minutes that the child in question here was clearly used to being in this kind of setting and that nothing was going to get touched. Even if you felt there was a risk, belittling us by making us aware "there is artwork behind the chair" was probably not the best route. It was very apparent to us (large orange bowls stick out), that there was artwork behind the chair, more apparent in fact, than her ability to see an interested/repeat customer. One visit (good or bad) does not make a sample size to provide a fair rating. Icefire, located right off Gower and Hemlock (next to the Surfsand Resort) has some wonderful pieces, and they often auction off (or raffle) certain pieces throughout the year. If you're OK with minor flaws, you can get them at a discount, though I think the list value for clean pieces is fair/market. The original artists I'm familiar with (Jim/Suzanne), neither of which was there in my last visit, are both engaging and appear to care about the customers. Other staff, and I have experienced it on times other than just this last visit, may treat you a bit more like a nuisance by hushing you as you view the activity, choosing to package/ship items rather than engage you, or, perhaps, defend the most prominent display piece in the studio--a leather chair. -AC read more

I've never actually witnessed the blowing of glass until yesterday at Icefire Glassworks. The owners have the warehouse-ish studio set up so that it's very friendly to the public, with benches in front of a sheet of glass so that you may watch the art in progress. The tedious process of heating glass, adding discs of color, and coating it in clear, liquified glass is something that I believe everyone should see at least once. It's stunning how the artist can meld something that seems so...so permanent to begin with. Endlessly rolling pipes with melted glass at the ends to maintain symmetry. Working with torches and wet rags to make it just perfect, and dipping it in glitter and opalescence to truly make it a piece of art. I was thinking, and it's clear that there must be a vision before beginning the process of creating a vase or dish. It's a delicate balance of how everything fits together just so. And the magic that lies in watching a piece of glass slowly expand with human breath. Simply stunning! The staff and artists were incredibly friendly, explaining every step of the art, and educating the inquiring public of the delicacies of glass work. I really wanted to go away with some of the art, but at $65 for a paperweight and $300+ for a vase, it just wasn't in my budget. But one day when I'm rich and famous...I'll be back for a whole slew of creations! read more

We visited Icefire for the first time and we were very impressed with the selection of items, the friendly atmosphere and the glassblowing demonstrations! They were very kid friendly which was a happy surprise considering it is a gallery full of glass! Since our first visit we have purchased many pieces for ourselves and for gifts. They do have a wide range of prices and also do an annual sale for items that might have a small flaw. A great way to pick up a beautiful piece with character for a discount! read more

In a town filled with art galleries, this is a place you shouldn't miss if you appreciate beauty. They have a viewing area with a few stools to check out the whole glass blowing process from start to finish. They do a very good job explaining the process and are willing to answer any questions you have along the way. I was there for about 45 minutes watching a glass bowl created from start to finish and was absolutely mesmerized the whole time. I was so tempted to buy but I realized that it wasn't quite a smart decision for our tiny apartment. Even if you have no intention of buying, it's fun to watch glass blowing. You may just be convinced to buy after seeing the amount of work and craftsmanship that goes into each piece. read more

Keep going to the touristy part of Cannon Beach for the kitsch and the shlock, this place sells gorgeous glass pieces that are classy and elegant. I'd love to have any one of these pieces in my house and would love to give them as gifts. There are numerous artists represented here and a large glass wall allows you to watch them at work. Really cool! Prices seemed very reasonable too ranging $50-$300 for bowls, vases and other sculptures. read more

This was an unexpected find, next to the Center Diamond Quilt Shop. As my companion loves hand-blown glass, we had to visit. They make what they want to make. Several artists produce their wares on site, but their works are mixed together by color. You are allowed to (carefully) handle the merchandise. The items could be small and simple to rather playful and large. If you enjoy hand-blown glass, you must visit. They share a parking lot with Center Diamond. You should be able to find something in your price range, even if it is only a small pin or ornament. read more

This place is worth a visit to watch the hot shop in action. While the glass art was expensive (I don't fault them for that), it was beautiful and some of it was pretty unique. I especially loved the many different colors and styles of bowls that were divided in the center by a thin glass wall. There are stools where you can perch and watch the glassblowers as they jam to their music and work with the hot glass. It's mesmerizing. Plus, with the heat of the small shop, it was warm and soothing in spite of the near monsoon going on outside the day we were there. It wasn't too crowded even on a Saturday midday. read more

An incredible adventure. We were able to sit with our 7 year old daughter and watch these artists at work. We were able to watch the creation of a vase from the start to the point where it is placed to cool down. We also sat with some wonderful fun ladies. It was a joy. I was thankful we were there when their apprentice was able to narrate and give us fun facts on the way the vase was created. My daughter, was enthralled by the work.
