A little old school but I can respect it. We came in and filled the last table-the place was already so lively at 6:30 on a Sunday (Mother's Day). They have English menus and were (of course) offering an asparagus specialty menu. We went with a couple beers, a shandy, a Schnitzel, mixed fish plate and the whole fish. Everything was so delicious and we could see the singular chef working and the singular woman wait all the tables. The only thing was that the shandy was actually made on site, with sprite and beer from tap. It was an interesting flavor. Would recommend this to anyone to get Hamburg classics!

Our waitress was fluent in English and made us feel welcome in a "so you're not from around her, but that's okay, sit here" kind of way.... Very pleasant! The beer was plentiful and ice cold, and we had the Wienerschnitzel (I know... cliché, but oh so good!), and it came out fast, hot and delicious. Also, for French Fries fans... these were thin, hot and crispy! (Not a big fan of soft fries/chips). The tables and seating seem to be an eclectic collection that work well together. My server was prompt and I ordered a "Jever" pilsner beer to start. She brought over an English menu and made some suggestions. I took her suggestion for "Pork medallions with button mushrooms ala creme and fried potatoes". This was three thick slices of pork tenderloin. This and the potatoes were delicious and a very generous portion. The restaurant was moderately crowded when we entered at around 7 on a Friday evening. We were welcomed by the staff and they led us to a table for two. A table reservation wasn't really necessary as there were a few empty tables available but it doesn't hurt to reserve one. Since we love vegetarian food, we ordered the pasta al'arrabiata and a glass of rosé wine. The staff were friendly and brought our food quickly. We loved the al'arrabiata sauce and the pasta was well cooked. We wrapped up our dinner with a delicious chocolate mocha tiramisu. There was a time when Cita Rasa restaurant was the star, but now Jawa quickly takes over. Of course Indonesian food can never be as authentic as your mom makes it, or the way warung across the street makes it, but for me - it's the best you could get so far and I'm not going to complain. We ordered Martabak and Batagor for starters and Lele Goreng (or Pecel Lele) and Tahu Tek for main course. Or whichever you wish to call it. Martabak is some sort of omelette while Batagor is abbreviation for Bakso Tahu Goreng (Fried Tofu meatball in peanut sauce). Both were delicious. Lele Goreng (Fried catfish served with vegetables on a plate of sambal) was ok. I guess the catfish was rather small and the sambal terasi wasn't as good as the same dish in Indonesia, but hey - I am from Surabaya - or more precise - Sidoarjo, which is the capital of terasi / belacan / shrimp paste and petis - so I was raised in top quality products. Tahu Tek was served with those colourful kerupuk (crisps), almost as authentic as it could be although the petis could be improved (didn't taste much like shrimp as it should), but overall it was very nice. There were three of us and we spent around 34 EUR total so it was relatively cheap. The only downside was the waiting time. One of us was starving and he almost died waiting for the food :)
