The hotel itself was okay. The breakfast had a fair variety of options, the room was small but comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Only one lady at the front desk spoke a bit of english, but we were able to communicate well enough with everybody. We asked one night for a dinner recommendation in Jardins, and the front desk staff suggested a venue that was only open for special events (fail!). The biggest down side is that it's located immediately next to a bus & train station. This yielded some beggers while you waited for the taxi and made me a little uncomfortable.
There's a side street with lots of street food shops that had fair tasting food, but again, there were many beggers. My colleague from Rio said he went for a walk down that road in the evening to get some fresh air and even he did not feel comfortable walking around the hotel.
The hotel also does not sell bottled water. They provide a small bottle with house keeping, but I drink a lot of water and it was not nearly enough. I feel this would be an easy way to make a bit of money for the hotel, but alas you'll need to walk to a shop for bottled water.
Wifi was slow but steady. The water pressure was good, with lots of hot water. The bed is quite hard, but it was sleepable. read more
