Spa Night with my sister
Ai S.

Sweet find in Philadelphia. While visiting my sister, she had the great idea for some self care time. We got an appointment here at the very last minute and they were able to accommodate us. Joseph and Yatz (sp?) made our experience very personable and comfortable. The massage was just what I needed to feel relaxed. The spa and sauna were also great. We had a fun and relaxing time.

It's rustic, urban chic, historic and unique. It's sexy, yet inviting to all, while being cool and funky at the same time. An awesome venue for anything and everything! We just held our Baby Loves Disco event here today and I was so incredibly impressed by this stunning place. It's truly a gem. One of a kind. I wish we would have thought of this place for our wedding reception as it is "so us". The chandeliers, the drapery, the mirrors and those lights! Couldn't get enough! Minimal decorations needed for this place, if any at all. The sound system is fantastic also. It's immaculately clean, a safe locale, and an easy drive from the city or burbs! It's just the "it" spot as far as I'm concerned. I couldn't recommend it more! Great communication with hosts throughout our entire planning process. Their friendly staff including Joe an Lisa made our party run so smoothly. The staff is really superb, and Bobby well, he's the best of the best! There's a reason why he's been doing this for decades!! Anyone throwing a party, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Sweet 16, wedding or anything really, this is the place! An old historic train station building turned amazing party venue! Wow you guest! Treat them to a night here! Oh, and they have in house catering and a list of recommended preferred vendors. It's like a one stop shop! Amazing!

Manayunk

A beautiful Wedding Reception here 11/24/18. This is a very hip Manayunk location with a gorgeous…read moreflowing staircase inside. Parking is ample across the street but for events you may even be given free valet service! (We were but elected to park our car in the lot) As soon as we arrived an attendant took my dripping wet umbrella & bagged it for me and set it in the umbrella holder. We were greeted with servers carrying trays of cocktails and wine. From what I understand the venue does not supply the wine but they do create the amazing appetizers and legendary meals. The appetizers kept on coming and coming, scallops wrapped w bacon, huge Japanese shrimp wrapped in a wonton thing, cheesesteak egg rolls, "green eggs and ham"- they were deviled egg filling dyed green on a tiny piece of toast with a tiny piece of ham, mini mussels with bacon, grilled salmon, mini steak tartar on a mini toast, and mini salads in a Parmesan cheese crispy "bowl". They had hot melted Brie with fig jam it was amazing along with a cheese table with seeded crackers. I would have been happy with just the appetizers. The entree we ordered was a splendid melt in your mouth filet mignon for my husband and a huge crab cake for me accompanied by mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Omg then after desserts which was cake and mini pastries served in a separate room downstairs. After the desserts they brought out curly fries and ketchup! The service from the staff was spectacular and everything, like the appetizers, was plentiful! We were treated like royalty. The young man, the wedding coordinator, kept everything moving and took control of the well paced event. They're obvious professionals with lots of experience executing these events. The roof was leaking during the event in one small spot and the rain was brutal that evening. The problem was solved with a plastic bucket on a rug. This probably just started this evening as the building seems to be very well taken care of.

Wynnefield

I love the Bala Golf Club. The course is only 5403 yards with a par of 68. Does that sound easy?…read more No. The 1901 Wm. Flynn design has small greens. It requires strategy and shot making skills on every hole. It is a fun course to play with at least a little bit of everything. The tight layout makes this a great course for walking. The health and weight loss benefits are important to me. The biggest weakness at the Bala is the sparse 100+ yards driving range. But they open up the only par 5 for driving practice 3 days a week in the evening. The management is friendly and strong under Chris Barletta, Head Pro and GM. His second, Ben Lesniak is my favorite golf instructor. The greens department is fine with many long-term employees. The golf course is consistently in good shape. Volunteer governance by the Board is steady. The locker rooms were recently updated to accommodate women golfers. An investment whose wisdom remains to be seen. A great feature are the mens showers that deliver a deluge so strong they are now illegal to create. The food at the Bala is very good quality. The grill room has a 2-page menu and there is a fine dining room. There is also a large hall for up to 200. The food, service and view are very nice. There is also a lot of bridge played by non-golfers. The location of the course is very convenient for residents of Center City and the near Main Line. The membership is largely Jewish but becoming more diverse. There is generally a warmth to the membership experience and a dedication to the club out of love for the Bala. There are a lot of older members who don't play golf well or often. So getting a tee time is not a problem. There is a league for men and women and golf events scheduled throughout the year. Unlike other nearby clubs you don't need to already know members. There is no initiation fee and the annual price is right at under a maximum of $6,000, less for younger adults and other categories. They do nickle and dime you for carts and events, but so does almost everywhere else. And if you seek glory, the 5-time club champion is a 7 handicap.

I've just got to comment on the cheese steak I ordered last week for lunch (end of August) with all…read morethe toppings: Peppers, fried onions, pizza sauce (added upon request), provolone (of course)...and it was probably the best spicy cheese steak I've ever had in Philly, which is amazeballs considering I'm a native and have eaten at like every well-known cheese steak emporium in the city and branches of Philly cheese steak chains elsewhere. My Phillies Cap is off to the Bala chef. Too bad I didn't take a picture but such perfection is best left to words and a live experience.
