Mestizo’s Vendor & Catering - I am not kidding, they put the food in a diaper box!

I came to the Oakley Food truck event especially to get some lumpia as we were craving some lumpia…read moreand I was too lazy to make or fry them. I ordered 2 plates( a dozen each plate- have a big family) and it was your average lumpia. In fact, it tastes exactly like the frozen Shanghai lumpia you can get at Asian grocery stores and some American grocery stores which I have in my freezers. These are about 16.00 for a package ( forget if it is for 35 or quantity of 50). I paid here 16.00 for a dozen. One customer had complained theirs was still pink and not fully cooked. Mine were cooked fine. So this so far was good. The rest of the plates were not good at all. Chicken adobo was too overcooked that it was shreds of chicken and pieces of ground bones. No substantial pieces of meat at all just shreds. Rice was horrible because it was a mixture of undercooked rice still dry and hard and almost raw mixed with way over cooked mushy rice like congee( rice porridge). They had a big rice pot and the only thing I could think of is they maybe mixed the raw rice with the overcooked rice maybe to keep warm. I would suggest having more than one rice pot. The chicken adobo was lacking soy sauce and vinegar taste and too watery instead of saucy. Pancit was disappointing as well. It lacked flavor, meat vegetables- it was watery for some reason. It had mainly diced green onions.I had to add soy sauce, a bit of salt and lemon to make it even a little close to resembling pancit. Basically it was just plain boiled rice stick( bihon noodles) lacking flavor. I would suggest to the owner to add more slices of carrots and celery( maybe cabbage to extend it) chicken, soy sauce, salt and serve with wedges of lemon. This can be cooked ahead the day before and still tastes fine serving the next day( I cook it for parties). So have that done already so saves time and you can focus on the other food. They were overwhelmed by the long lines I think. A lot of these can be cooked ahead so when it gets overwhelming you have something to fall back on and cook the rest fresh. It was a 30 minute wait as it is. Then if that wasn't enough, they put my order of 4 containers in a DIAPER box!!! It was dark and I couldn't see the box as I was carrying it and my daughter saw and mentioned it- EEWWW!!! Gross! Lumpia gets a 3 star and the rest of the foods was a 1 star, so averages 1.6 so gave them 2 stars for them overall. This was not worth the wait or the 60.00 plus ( not including the tip which was on top of that amount).

First time I have ever eaten from a food truck inside our gated neighborhood in Discovery Bay. I…read moreexpected quick & reasonably priced food. We ordered 6 asada street tacos and 2 churros =$32.00. Okay a bit expensive for my taste, but combine waiting 42 minutes in cold damp weather (47 degrees) and just 3 people in front of us, who had already ordered & were WAITING too for their food, = an overall BAD first time experience. I don't wait that long in a sit down restaurant! The tacos tasted good, but they were very small. The churros tasted like deep fried oil and barely had cinnamon & sugar sprinkled on them. I still will try food truck venue when I see them in my neighborhood because I like supporting local vendors, but won't order from Mestizo's ever again. I could have forgiven the price if the service had been quick.
