They are united by the great quality of typical Milanese dishes, but each one stands out for some different aspects. The Antica Osteria il Ronchettino is characterized by large rooms very well furnished and spacious: it is rare to find round tables like here, for 8-10 people, and in my opinion they are ideal compared to square or rectangular tables, because they facilitate the conversation among diners. Other strong points of this restaurant are the large amount of staff, all very attentive, fast, and extremely kind, and the rich wine list. The dishes are all the historical Milanese ones: mondeghili (meatballs), risotto, ossobuco, cutlet, brain. I was surprised at how full it was even on Saturday lunch: in any case it is essential to book well in advance.

I went on a short break with my girlfriend who is a bit of a fussy eater but when it comes to italian food she is happy. I booked this place hearing some of the reviews and seeing some of the photos and it was definitely worth it. The service was fantastic (even with my awful attempt at ordering in italian she let me have a go) and quick for the fact it was really busy! The atmosphere is nice and romantic but not over the top so allows for a relaxing date and warm feeling. The food was not cheap but nothing in Milan really is! The portions were great and the size of the milanese is as big as it looks - filling to say the least! However the risotto alla milanese, a specialty I tried in a couple of restaurants, was the benchmark that never got beaten during our trip! We fought over the last few bites and I was tempted to order another one but the rest of the food was so great we kind of just wanted it all! If I end up back in Milan this will be up there with places to go back to!

After so many years Traveling to Italy, I finally…read moreexperienced a traditional and typical Milanese meal...with the locals! Located in the Navigli neighborhood, we walked along the canals for about a hour in the freezing cold and worked up and appetite. This isn't one of those places along the canal with employees inviting you in for "happy hour" or aperitivo. As soon as you step foot inside this place, you'll feel cozy and welcome. We drank the house wine, shared an antipasto Misto (mixed appetizer plate of traditional Milanese items- fried bread, potato skins, pickled nerves... Totally strange item but worth a try, Salumi and cheese. The appetizer alone was a feast! For dinner, the Milanesa was a must! I ordered it extra thin with a side of mashed potatoes. Take note- the portions are enormous! I barely ate half. My man ordered the risotto Damm-atra. (Saffron risotto served with a sausage and bean stew) both dishes were awesome. Super rustic and totally traditional. The service as friendly, the atmosphere is humble and the food delicious. Anyone looking for an adventure outside the high trafficked Duomo area Will enjoy this spot.

Warning: don't go here for the food. They probably shouldn't even serve food…read more You'll be served by a nice old lady who doesn't speak a word of English. Your food will be a combination of deli-meats on a plate with some microwaved bean-pasta and freezer-burned meatballs. I don't think they have a working stove at this restaurant. The house wine comes from a 5L box or bucket or bathtub or something, but it wasn't that offensive. Be sure to clean your plate or you will get interrogated - we snuck outside and secretly dispose of a whole meatball. The interior is an unsolvable paradox. When you look one direction, you feel like you're transported to the handsome 1950's with the bar construction, faema espresso machine, and the interesting stone floor. But there's an element of third-world-country: the stained, hole-ridden tablecloth, the tattered sheet dividing the restaurant, a light bulb decorated by crepe paper wrapped around it. The bathrooms were described to me as something between a hole in the ground and a toilet. It's probably going to be completely empty there - except for a man watching TV behind the divider. However, there's something strangely "romantic" about de Lina in the modern metropolis of Milan. It's a safe-place from the chaotic outside world where you and your dining partner will be forced to rough it for a couple hours. Think if you could take entertainment and inverse it... for EUR 35 for two people, what a way to spend a night. And remember... be ready to clean your plate... by any means possible.

If you're on a budget, definitely come here to get a taste of traditional Milan staples. We got two dishes (Milanese veal cutlet and tripe), a dessert (sbrisolona), and lunch for the next day (Osso Bucco), all for under 50 euros. The Milanese veal cutlet tastes like your typical fried meat cutlets but man is it a long piece of meat. The tripe was good and mixed in a tomato-like soup base. I would be cautious with that one if you don't like organ meats although my wife enjoyed it and she isn't a big fan of organ meats. Sbrisolona reminds me of a flaky almond cookie. Our waiter was very pleasant, fast, and accommodating towards us. Inside looks like a small diner. Would love to come here again just because they made me feel at home as I was eating.

That, bread, and a bottle of mineral water came to E14, which was money well spent in the company of a fine staff who were friendly and talkative w/o being intrusive.
