An incredible restaurant. Here's the drill: -
You arrive and grab a ticket, which bags you a place in the often long queue to place your order. As you wait though, there is an outside bar area where you can knock back a pre-dinner aperitivo, I would also say as you take in the fresh breeze but in reality the sulphur-laced odour emanating from the lake is a bit hard on the old schnozz.
Once you've placed your order, it's back outside again and both the utensils supplied and the dinner setting are about as rustic as rustic gets. At the self-service counter a polystyrene tray will contain your plastic utensils, cardboard plates and a bag of bread. It's like upmarket open prison catering I suppose, except you're free to go at any time.
We were only here for four days, but ate here twice. To kick off we had gnocchi, which appeared to be freshly made originally but since frozen (if that's clear), in the most amazing tomato sauced rich in flavour and laced with helpings of the sea bass or bream - depending on your order. Then, as soon as the main dish is ready, you are called - by number - back to the self-service area and receive your fish. And hose me down and call me Lionel, damn finer fish you'd be hard pushed to find: fresh and cooked to utter Biblical perfection, we plumped for the spigola (sea bass) on both visits and the experience was a towering one.
The atmosphere is relaxed; it's equally ideal for families or those looking for a little romance (given half a chance). It was of such a standard, that I don't really recall the price though as vaguely as I do remember was around EUR60 for two courses each, for four people. read more
