For those in the restaurant business, you know that if you need any sort of equipment that isn't easily accessible, Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei is where you'll most likely find it. Among the endless speciality shops up and down Shanghai Street, I Love Cake sticks out like a sore thumb. This is only the case because it seems to be the only shop with a somewhat modern looking store sign. Fun and quirky and at first look seems a bit out of place.
Once you're inside, its a bakers heaven. Everything you need to make the cutest tastiest cakes from scratch. There are silicone molds in all shapes and sizes. Pots, bowls, plates, pans, cookie cutters....EVERYTHING! For your decorating needs, you'll also find a good variety of edible paints and a large selection of sprinkles for you to choose from. The prices are very reasonable and not at all exaggerated.
Once your baking is done, be sure to pick a nice little box or plastic baggie to store your goodies in to distribute. My niece had a themed birthday party and I had no issue finding everything Hello Kitty here.
They also offer some baking classes every now and then. The schedules are constantly changing so be sure to give them a call to see what they are currently offering. Also, I hear there is a location in Wan Chai as well so for those on the Island side, you won't need to go too far. I'm a fan!
Special note: The store name is I Love (actual heart) Cake, but I think because of search difficulties on the internet, they use I Love Cake. If you are looking for the store, be on the lookout for I heart Cake. read more
