And what makes it all the more proper? No motorcars allowed. Only buses, cyclists, and pedestrians quite right, wide chap. Orderly, safe, and delightfully serene, with buses gliding along at a sensible 25 miles per hour in their designated lanes. Its name, derived from a Chinook Wawa word meaning "people," "tribe," or "relatives," feels rather fitting. One cannot help but feel a sense of togetherness upon it an unspoken camaraderie among those who traverse its path. Now, allow me a small tale. After descending from the Portland Aerial Tram with a few companions, we found ourselves pausing midway across. There we stood, laughing like schoolchildren, when along came a most curious sight a gentleman dressed as a clown, pedaling past on his bicycle, honking and gesturing with theatrical enthusiasm. I say, it was impossible not to laugh. And then, as if the scene required a proper encore, we glanced upward. The sun was setting soft, golden, utterly splendid. Birds chirped their evening chorus as daylight faded into that slightly ominous, yet enchanting dusk. And just like that, the bridge awakened. Its LED lights began to shimmer and shift, reflecting the river's speed, height, and temperature below how clever, how modern, how utterly lovely. Indeed, the design itself is striking clean, contemporary, and most unique. By day it is impressive; by night, it is simply dazzling. One does not merely cross here one lingers, one laughs, one takes it all in. And isn't that just lovely?

It is used in so many shots to depict Portland that while in the area though raining, I had to get some up close photos. Thankfully, the bridge wasn't busy so Ben was able to drive pretty slow as I took picture after picture while we got closer. After a little while, I told him to just stop the car and let me out and I'd walk the rest of the way to avoid anything getting in the view of my pictures. There was a small little pull off (kinda) that I told him to wait for me at right at the end of the bridge. I love these types of things, unique and distinctly Portland.

We did the WildWood Trail to the Witches Castle! It's a nice hike. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes! 2.3-5 miles round trip. It's a big enough path for multiple people but some areas narrow. The climb down is good but man back up lol you will feel the burn. They have restrooms onsite indoor and then they have a bathroom in the mansion basement. Toilets flush loud don't be alarmed. At the bottom of the trail when you cross the street, there was a porta potty. Map as well. Parking is expensive: weekend Saturday it was roughly $24 for all day! There are benches and picnic tables towards the view! Staff are very nice! Gift shop as well with snacks, plants, jewelry, postcards, and all sorts of items.

Back in the construction days, my daughter and I spent some time out here getting our hands dirty helping with demo, moving pieces, laying down the early bones of what now stands as a clean, modern span over Interstate 84. Not every day you get to point at a structure and say, "Yeah... I helped put that there." That part sticks with you. I came back recently doing a bit of scouting thinking ahead to future tours. Portland's got this rhythm to it: a few blocks, a bridge, a bite to eat, repeat. This one fits right into that loop like it was always meant to be there. It's practical, sure but it's also easy on the eyes. From a distance, the design is sharp, almost effortless. Midway across, you get this open slice of the city just enough skyline, just enough space. It's quieter than the main bridges, though the hum of traffic below reminds you where you are. Still, there's something about it... feels like a spot you could pause. Sit a minute. Talk a little longer than you planned. Maybe even make it a regular stop with someone who matters. Springtime? Perfect. Summer, I imagine it'll bake a bit, but that's part of the deal. It's not the main attraction and that's exactly why it works. Sentimental? Yeah, a little. Practical? Definitely. Worth the detour? Without question.
