The trident wielding woman is enormous and is awe inspiring and beautiful and perhaps to a certain kind of man perhaps intimidating but that isn't necessarily a problem there. This statue is on the Portland Building and if you simply wall by or near it's nearly impossible to miss. This is also an attraction where there is no fee to take a look at it as it can literally be seen quite easily from the public sidewalk. And what makes it all the more proper? No motorcars allowed. Only buses, cyclists, and pedestrians quite right, wide chap. Orderly, safe, and delightfully serene, with buses gliding along at a sensible 25 miles per hour in their designated lanes. Its name, derived from a Chinook Wawa word meaning "people," "tribe," or "relatives," feels rather fitting. One cannot help but feel a sense of togetherness upon it an unspoken camaraderie among those who traverse its path. Now, allow me a small tale. After descending from the Portland Aerial Tram with a few companions, we found ourselves pausing midway across. There we stood, laughing like schoolchildren, when along came a most curious sight a gentleman dressed as a clown, pedaling past on his bicycle, honking and gesturing with theatrical enthusiasm. I say, it was impossible not to laugh. And then, as if the scene required a proper encore, we glanced upward. The sun was setting soft, golden, utterly splendid. Birds chirped their evening chorus as daylight faded into that slightly ominous, yet enchanting dusk. And just like that, the bridge awakened. Its LED lights began to shimmer and shift, reflecting the river's speed, height, and temperature below how clever, how modern, how utterly lovely. Indeed, the design itself is striking clean, contemporary, and most unique. By day it is impressive; by night, it is simply dazzling. One does not merely cross here one lingers, one laughs, one takes it all in. And isn't that just lovely?

I was told unlike most bridges, it's dedicated to Portland Tri-Mext tram, bikes, and pedestrians so no cars allow which only makes it a peaceful and safe spot to stroll or bike across. Hence, I got to check out and set my own two feet on the platform!! Hahahaha The bridge way drops you off at either the end Tom McCall Waterfront or Vera Katz Park --- here are bicycle-pedestrian paths marked on either side of bridge. The design is sleek and modern, and the city skyline looks incredible from the bridge. Definitely a must-see if you're exploring Portland on foot or two wheels (so rent a bike for a day for $75).

Some say they haven't seen an account with this many reviews but there is indeed some accounts that have way surpassed my amount of reviews. I believe there is a Yelper out there (Bruce K.) that is from Charlotte, North Carolina that comes in with 23,000 reviews and 61,000 pictures for his reviews as of 2024 so I have waaaay more review writing to do to even get remotely close to this guy. The reviews I write is for something that is unique only to the place I have adopted as home ( or the region that I call home as opposed to a city). Previously I have written about the mountains of our region like Mount Rainier but this time around I wanted to write about something more urban and a place I always love visiting...Portland! The White Stag Sign is so signature Portland! We have seen it lit up at night and have seen it during the day. All of which we have managed to get different angles to look at. As other reviewers say the admission is free... which kind of makes sense since it's a sign. This sign at times seems to be so obvious that it's hard to miss but other times on the Interstate we miss it completely giving it that "camouflaged" notion in amongst the building and bridges... of course we may just be looking in the wrong place too...keeping one's eyes on the road is an upmost priority... which should go without saying. But you can still stroll by here as a pedestrian and get some great pictures of this Portland landmark and a landmark that totally smacks of Cascadia and the Pacific Northwest!

We did the WildWood Trail to the Witches Castle! It's a nice hike. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes! 2.3-5 miles round trip. It's a big enough path for multiple people but some areas narrow. The climb down is good but man back up lol you will feel the burn. They have restrooms onsite indoor and then they have a bathroom in the mansion basement. Toilets flush loud don't be alarmed. At the bottom of the trail when you cross the street, there was a porta potty. Map as well. Parking is expensive: weekend Saturday it was roughly $24 for all day! There are benches and picnic tables towards the view! Staff are very nice! Gift shop as well with snacks, plants, jewelry, postcards, and all sorts of items.

Back in the construction days, my daughter and I spent some time out here getting our hands dirty helping with demo, moving pieces, laying down the early bones of what now stands as a clean, modern span over Interstate 84. Not every day you get to point at a structure and say, "Yeah... I helped put that there." That part sticks with you. I came back recently doing a bit of scouting thinking ahead to future tours. Portland's got this rhythm to it: a few blocks, a bridge, a bite to eat, repeat. This one fits right into that loop like it was always meant to be there. It's practical, sure but it's also easy on the eyes. From a distance, the design is sharp, almost effortless. Midway across, you get this open slice of the city just enough skyline, just enough space. It's quieter than the main bridges, though the hum of traffic below reminds you where you are. Still, there's something about it... feels like a spot you could pause. Sit a minute. Talk a little longer than you planned. Maybe even make it a regular stop with someone who matters. Springtime? Perfect. Summer, I imagine it'll bake a bit, but that's part of the deal. It's not the main attraction and that's exactly why it works. Sentimental? Yeah, a little. Practical? Definitely. Worth the detour? Without question.
