They were either super enthusiastic or really, well angry. But remember this is quite a cheap hotel. We paid 45€ for a sunday-monday night after coming through the channel tunnel. Free parking, friendly efficient personnel, fairly comfortable twin bed, reasonably clean bathroom, plenty of towels. What I really liked was the shades of pink & purple on the walls :) gives the room a modern feel. Those walls were a bit thin & we were lucky that it was a quite night, in the morning we slept late & heard several noises going on outside & in the hallway like kids & dogs. Nothing spectacular. Location is nearly on the beach :) They also have a restaurant but we decided to go into town for our meals so can't say anything about that....

That makes unloading the luggage so much easier... :-) * The rooms are of a good size; and the bathroom is fitted with tub as well as a shower. It's always pleasant to have a choice... ;-) * WiFi available in guest rooms; and the connection is sufficiently fast * The breakfast buffet looked standard; but it comes at an extra cost of EUR 7.50 * Pets allowed (at an extra cost of EUR 10.- per night) On the DOWN side: * The walls are extremely thin and not very soundproof: If another guest in one of the adjacent rooms happens to use the hair dryer early in the morning, it sounds as if someone is hoovering the room next to your own bed! Not a pleasant way to be woken up in the morning... :-( * If you arrive late at night, don't expect a warm welcome. The staff makes it obvious that they're not pleased about doing that "graveyard shift" * Paint / plaster are crumbling from the walls here and there and make the hotel look a bit shabby. All in all, the hotel is perfect for a cheap overnight-stay if you've just crossed over from the UK and would like some rest before continuing your journey - or if you need a place to stay before you leave for the UK early in the morning - but I would not exactly recommend it for a longer stay...

The hotel has a nice bar and a restaurant. We enjoyed two pizzas and some wine in the restaurant that night. The pizzas were just ok but it was nice to have something warm and some tasty wine to wash it down with. The service was really great even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. They also have a room service menu. The room was a good size and we were able to comfortably stay with 4 people. The bathroom was a little bit dated but it was very clean and in good repair. Our room also overlooked the harbor which I thought was neat. We stayed on a Friday night. Be warned that few restaurants nearby are open for breakfast Saturday morning, however there was this awesome French market in the town square where we got a Nutella waffle. Otherwise you could do the hotel breakfast but that seemed a bit pricey to us. Overall this was a great spot to stop over in Calais and I would stay here again.

Very friendly welcome from the reception staff, who gave recommendations on where to park (quite a few unsavoury characters along the sea front so we were advised not to park on the street alongside the harbour out of sight of the hotel. We found a space directly opposite the hotel instead). The family room we had on the fourth floor was easily big enough for the four of us along with the hotel provided travel cot for our baby and the bathroom was equally larger than expected and clean. While Calais isn't exactly the sort of place I'd recommend for anything other than an overnight for ferry or tunnel services this hotel was a great example of a clean and modern Holiday Inn so wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
