I would only recommend a towel bar or hooks in the bathroom, change the battery in the clock, and larger mug cups in the kitchen. We enjoyed one of the three restaurants. I had a lobster roll dinner at the seafood one. The hotel is in the heart of old town and walking distance to restaurants, shops and the St. Lawrence River.

Hôtel Terrasse Royale checked those boxes. Located in the Côte des Neiges section of town, Hôtel Terrasse Royale's rooms are up-to-date, fresh, modern despite being a 50 year-old hotel, although the lobby is not large or fancy. We found their staff extremely friendly, plus they offer guest parking garage (for a nominal extra fee) and a number of other amenities useful if you are having more than a one night stay. (FYI - If you have a really extended stay, there is a laundry room in the basement.) We particularly took advantage of the kitchenette, stocked with plates, utensils, etc. They have different room classes, so check both Hôtel Terrasse Royale's site as well as other online travel serves, which provide a lower rate. Due to high demand when booking our trip, our first night ended up in a smaller, yet comfortable room. When changing to a larger suite for the weekend, we had a terrace with a view of the dome of St. Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal. Most importantly, the hotel's situated one block from the Côte-des-Neiges Metro and along a bus line that goes downtown. Beyond the many restaurants in the neighborhood and great bakery café next door, there are several 24 hour shopping options within only a block away: Metro supermarket, Pharmaprix drug store and a nice covered open air farmer's market. The only small issue may be the single guest elevator, which some may consider slow - although the hotel isn't that big. That being said, it's minor considering all the upsides Hôtel Terrasse Royale has to offer.

They're just trying to get their greedy hands on more money. The maids use a smelly room spray and their cleaning products have a horrible chemical smell. A couple of times the cleaning staff walked into my room when I had a do not disturb sign on the door. They were probably trying to start a fight and upset me. The entire building smelled of smoke. 2. Front desk staff barely communicative. 3. Room was FAR smaller than advertised and was also dirty. The room to which I was assigned looked like NOTHING IN ANY OF THE PHOTOS. 4. Public shared restroom: i did not even go in since everything else smelled like piss, cigarettes and beer, I figured the bathrooms were also disgusting. 5. Parking is off site; no bell hop or other staff to carry bags up two flights of stairs (no lift). The only plus is that I got a few dollars of one key rewards for walking in and out of a horriffic, unsanitary, smoky boarding home- far far below any consideration of the name "hotel." It's not even hostel level. This is an unhealthy, and borderline dangerous place to stay. It is destined to close down, fail, and die. You may too if you stay there. DO NOT BOOK THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. First when I arrived really early without even making a reservation and they had a great room ready for me and served me breakfast even though it was long before the official check in time, and then again when I stupidly forgot my passport at the room and they helped me ship it back to New York. The hotel is charming and looks like it belongs in an old sit-com from the 80s, it has a parking lot in the back which is very convenient and is located perfectly for access to downtown Montreal. And when he found out we were celebrating an anniversary, he brought out a fabulous white wine for us. The rooms are clean, modern, but unique. We booked two and were able to stay on the same floor and spend time in both rooms. The hotel itself makes you feel like you're staying with family in the way they brought up our coffees and breakfast. It can function as a business hotel (which is what I used it for), but probably excels as a "date night" or vacation hotel. One of the more interesting aspects of the hotel is its layout. The property appears to have been created by combining several historic buildings into a single hotel, which means no two sections feel exactly alike. As a result, navigating from the lobby to your room can initially feel a bit like solving a small puzzle, but it's a tradeoff that creates a number of unique common spaces, including comfortable seating areas, a billiards room, and a complimentary coffee station. The property has personality, and that's something increasingly difficult to find. My room was exceptionally spacious, modern, and tastefully appointed without feeling overly trendy. The bed (medium firm) was very comfortable--not quite top tier, but well above average. The bathroom was particularly impressive, featuring a rainfall shower with outstanding water pressure and quality bath products that felt like a noticeable step above the typical hotel offering. Some rooms also include body spray jets, adding a little extra luxury after a long day of meetings or sightseeing. Some of my colleagues rooms had a second bathroom/powder room. The surrounding neighborhood is also highly walkable, whether you're looking for restaurants in the evening or simply want to get out for a morning walk before starting your day. Insider Tip: If you're heading to Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL), plan to leave with more time than you think you'll need. A lot of the rooms have open views on the street and it's definitely designed to be a bit artsy, even risque. The shower setup in the rooms is definitely a bit eclectic and interesting. I'd recommend this hotel, especially with its walking distance proximity to a view lookout points of Mont Royal.
