I can recommend this charming-yet-homey, very lovingly maintained hotel VERY warmly. I just stayed there for two nights in a triple room and would certainly stay there again I'd even pay more than the very reasonable price I paid (89 Euros a night for the three of us, not including breakfast). The hotel came recommended by the New York Times' Frugal Traveler and we were not disappointed.
The experience started off on the right foot with the extremely pleasant email contact when making the reservation last month. the receptionist was happy to write in English, answered questions about storing luggage (no problem, there is a secret cupboard right by the reception desk for this purpose) and sending me a map of the area.
We arrived much earlier than the official start of check in, but our room was already ready. The large and charmingly-furnished sitting room, with piano, had a family atmosphere and made us feel right at home. The elevator was tiny, but there was also a handsome staircase, and we enjoyed the cherry-themed decor and the colorful maps of Switzerland in the hallways. Our room was compact, but we didn't mind, as all was so clean and comfortable and the furniture, beds and bedding were clearly very new, firm and clean. Our room overlooked the courtyard so was very quiet, but I expect that even the outside-facing rooms are not loud, as the hotel is on a side street and the neighborhood is a quite one.
We found the location quite handy, as we could easily cross either the river to either side of the city, and the good restaurants and nice sites are all within a healthy walk. It is not near the main train station, but that is easily reached by tram from the nearby Perrache station.
So if you want a simple but very cozy and charming place to stay, this is your place! read more
