It was late, driving far wasn't an option. We started cold-calling places nearby. (Thank you Yelp!)…read moreThis place was a few miles away and got a positive review from another Yelper, so we called and were told they could take us. We arrived at nearly midnight, and the friendly proprietor greeted us and kindly showed us up 2 flights to our room. The room was a comfortable size, and it was clean, but somewhat dated. Fantastic hot shower and water pressure. Clean fluffy towels, but out-dated colors. The bed could use an upgrade, but it was comfortable enough for weary travelers. Surprisingly, there was a Mac in the room with a large screen all set up for Internet access. Our room overlooked the town center - it was a lovely view out the window. The church directly across the way starts chiming at 7 a.m. and tolls every 15 minutes, so if you're a light sleeper or the window is open, this can be either charming or bothersome. You decide. The continental breakfast included DELICIOUS chocolate croissants, ham, cheese and bread, and yogurt. Plenty of coffee, tea and juice. The restaurant is decorated with Gustav Klimt artwork, and we noticed the many taps and wished we could have stayed longer (or arrived earlier!) and had a beer or two. And chatted longer with the proprietor! He was just as friendly at breakfast as he had been at midnight, and told us a few things to check out in the area, including the fort which was a lovely walk after breakfast. For the value? Friendly. Clean. Delicious. I'd stay there again, if I ever find myself In Rocroi.

Fine for business travel. Clean, bed was comfortable, good housekeeping. Overall what you would…read moreexpect. Cannot comment on price as this was covered by my company. Restaurant was above average for menu selections, food quality, and service. I don't think there are a lot of choices in the area. I would return.

Solid hotel with great food…read more Check-in: Can be a little slow. If there is a line, performance and efficiency are not top priorities. Get ready for a wait. But the staff is friendly at the front desk if somewhat limited. Limited you say? Let me give you an example. I needed to shorten my stay by a day. I let the front desk know, in person, of my change. The response: "We can't". When pressed, she said it was because I'd need to change it in the reservation system I used to book. Seeing as I didn't pre-pay, this didn't make sense. Additionally as I was 9 days into my 14 day stay, the site I used to book couldn't do anything. When pressed she "talked" to her manager and 2 seconds later I was all set. Keep in mind, I was making a change 4 days early, not the day before or day of my needed departure. Rooms: This is the tale of two rooms! If you get a room from the original hotel, well, it's not up to standard (think Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton). Its more at the motel level. And, IMPORTANT, the older rooms are not air conditioned. There are often twin sized beds in here. If you get a room in the "newer" side (comfort rooms I think they are referred to), then you're all set. Mini-bar, A/C, king beds, good bathrooms. Its well worth a few extra dollars. Gym: Treadmill, old elliptical machine and a odd bowflex like weight area. Hard to find in the basement. Restaurant/Food: This makes the Van Der Valk shine. Some of the best "hotel" food I've had. In fact they seem to be a dinning destination for the surrounding area. Great menu selection, high quality, full bar. Highly recommend. Parking: Gated, but free, parking. Remember when leaving in the AM to get a gate-pass at the front desk. Lot can fill up on occasion. There is overflow parking out the back gate to the left past Accenture. American tip: Service is "slow". It can take a while to get a drink or a re-fill. Think ahead. They are in NO rush at all and are not super attentive. Remember: you don't tip here, so you're stuck with the speed of service you get.
