Then, behind the counter, there's a row of flea tablets lined up like cigarette packets. Glancing at the beer and tablet line-up, I felt like I was in the equivalent of a dream toy shop for dogs where they also sell beer and smokes. This large store sells an insane amount of toys for your pet. There's stuff for cats, birds, fish and other pets, but as I have a dog it was mostly dog-specific products I focused on. The dog selection seemed to take up a large proportion of the store, and there's even a dog (a surprisingly docile Chihuahua) that sleeps on the front counter. (He's six, called Louis, and likes pats but not being held.) Besides a huge selection of toys - so much you can't take it all in in one visit - there's other stuff to pimp out your pet, including a doggy clothing rack if your pet is that way inclined. The Pet Cafe also boasts a wide range of health foods for dogs, particularly those suffering from health issues (e.g. calcium deficiency, obesity - general medical issues that also seem common to humans). The store stocks both Science Diet and Advance food and health products. In terms of The Unhealthy, the front counter showcases an assortment of doggy cookies and chocolates (actually made of carob) that are home-made looking. They weren't as expensive as I thought they'd be, but I'd bought enough stuff here already. The counter staff were also incredibly friendly and chatty, which you'd gather from a business where there is a resident pet.

Katie in particular was just so kind and caring and full of great ways to help Snoopy settle in with us and gave us some samples of food to try him on as he's had been very fussy and nervous about eating. It's helped us a lot as buying a big bag of biscuits and him not eating any of them was a real worry. Look forward to coming back in a few weeks to show him off after we've washed him in his new shampoo and conditioner and we've figured out what he really does like to eat.

Lola (the dog) has been shedding fur like crazy all summer, so we also got her a de-moulting/de-shedding treatment. In total it cost $55 for all of this. The doggy spa is a big room out the back where all the dogs wait for their treatments, and then get spoilt rotten and pampered. Lola was a bit scared when we handed her leash to the girl, but when we returned an hour later, she was totally loving the staff and this place. There were lots of other dogs for her to play with too. The Pet Pad offers other services including Pawdicures (pedicure for the paws!), Pet Day Care (either a half or full day of toys, treats, games, soft beds, in-house movies and loads of snuggles, awwww), Dog walking, Pet sitting and even house calls! The owner Emma is a serious pet lover and offers a luxurious service for your pets. Lola came out smelling so clean and lovely!

A Google search for "dog groomer brisbane" led me to many a website but none of them quite made me feel comfortable in my decision to let them groom my dog as The Pet Pad. Knowing the suburb it operates in, I knew there'd be no way the pooches of New Farm and surrounds would continue to visit here if they weren't good at what they do. I dropped him off yesterday for a "feet, face and tail" grooming session and after showing the staff member a photo of past grooming disasters to demonstrate what I didn't want, I knew, from her facial expression, we were on the same page. Less than an hour later I was on my way back to pick him up. The grooming a success. He still looked like a dog and not an old man with mutton chops. But like Sun E said in her review, the price is so very reasonable for the service. I would have expected I'd be parting with a lot more for the quality of grooming he received. These girls that run this salon are really lovely, and although I have never taken my dog here for a haircut/bath I have bought her some lovely threads here. The merchandise is a little pricey but I guess you expect to pay higher prices for novelty items. They offer weekend hydrobaths and regular specials. They don't have a website but you can find them on FB. The salon is really pretty - a Balinese retreat in the middle of a lush rainforest.

The staff were excellent and kept me informed, they fed him extra at no cost in an attempt to counter this weight loss. This service gave me a high level of confidence that our dog was being monitored closely. The only concerning issue I had was the following. Upon drop off I was not allowed to see our dog to the booked private room. This did not give me much confidence I was getting what I paid for. Secondly, upon pick up my dog was obviously stressed, he had forgotten who he was and did not recognise us for the first few minutes. I doubt he would have been that stressed if he really did stay in the private room the whole time. I am suspicious he was kept in the general kennels that are loud and stressful.

Acacia Ridge Pet Resort is located in Willawong which is mainly a farm like suburb with plenty of space, occupied by other pet accommodation, plant nurseries or industrial businesses. The staff I have met here are very informative and helpful. They make sure you get as much information as possible and answered all the queries I had. They staff at reception organised for me to do a walk-through to have a lot at the facilities. Obviously the kennels were very loud. Some dogs either looked liked they loved it, or in major distress. Most dogs here are buddied up with another dog of similar size and temperament. Otherwise if you pay for the premium accommodations which is about $70/day on peak time, the dog can stay in a small air conditioned room with TV and big sized bed. They do not allow you to bring any of your dogs toys or bed, but if you wanted your dog to eat their usual food, you will need to provide it as well as pay extra for this privilege. You have to pay extra for a lot of things including, personal playtime with your dog ($10/ 20 minutes), brushing ($6/ session), playing with a kong toy ($4/ session) and applying medication ($2.50/ day). I personally don't like the fact you have to pay extra for all these things. But the staff are lovely and I'm sure any dog would enjoy staying there either in their own room or share it with a room mate.

If your puppy is a bit shy and only requires a wash, this salon has a serve-your-self hydrobath facility which is great. I really think it's best to leave it to the experts though - and Kate seems to have a way with dogs - I'm sure any nervous pooch will be won over by her charm in no time at all. The business caters for large and small dogs and offers a variety of services including grooming, clipping, hydrobath and blow dry. The prices are very reasonable. A DIY hydrobath will set you back $7. You MUST make an appointment - so make sure you call ahead.

Finding Paddington Pups was the result of a google search and a telephone call where a pleasant young man on the other end told me, "If you can bring him in this morning we can see him." I'd been searching for a new groomer for our pampered pooch after a less than desirable cut just before Winter. All I wanted this visit was a general tidy up, wash and dry (his visits to the salon sound all too much like mine!). Paddington Pups were able to see Dutch that day and it worked out cheaper than our usual salon. Cheaper doesn't always equal better but upon being reunited with my pup a few hours later it sure was in this case. The groomer had heard everything I said and trimmed his face without making him look like a dog without any facial hair. His feet were tidied and there was no great length taken off the rest of his coat. And while I'm yet to make use of it, they also have doggy-day care on site as well as a small range of pet food and toys.
