It was my birthday and I booked for a Decadence for the feet pedicure and every staff member that I crossed paths with wished me a happy birthday, I felt like an old friend, not just a new client. The visit started by changing into a robe and slippers, now I am a fluffy guy robe's usually don't fit, but that wasn't the case here, the robe fitted perfectly. Then I was taken to a relaxation room where I got to chill and relax even before the treatment started. Being my birthday there were three of us getting pedi's, and despite the chatter between us when it came to the hot stone massage we all fell silent and drifted to an almost comatose state of bliss. I have to say having pedicures are the ultimate luxury experience for me and I've been around awhile and had a few over my time and I can say that I have never had a more luxurious pedicure in my life!! Just when I thought it couldn't get better because it was my birthday we were given a glass of champagne and chocolates. This place offers the wow factor on so many levels. If you are visiting the hotel or just want to indulge in someone for a special occasion I would highly recommend them, I know I am taking my mum in for another double pedicure session for mothers day this year!

If I just could have managed to keep my head up. It started out as usual - a locker room visit, a silky robe, and short wait in the lounge before I was led to my treatment room. From there it was 2.5 hours of bliss, all in one room, all with one therapist. This was definitely more of a relaxation massage, and though I mentioned it a few times, it was a little light for my liking... but at that point I was too relaxed to let it bother me. It certainly wasn't a cheap pampering session, but if you're looking to spoil someone rotten, this is definitely your place. Hydrated and velvety doesn't even begin to describe how my body felt afterward and after a beautiful tea in the lounge to round off the experience, I was ready to take over the world (perhaps right after a long nap).

Hence when a friend suggested we get pedicures a wave of fear washed over me. Pedicures? I've successfully avoided one for so long why would I start having them now? People touching our feet? And everyone being able to see us? Luckily said friend wasn't suggest mall pedicures, she was taking it up a level and suggested Pho Thai Spa which is conveniently located on Brunswick Street (past the New Farm Cinema and next to Death Before Decaf). Yes, you'll pay a little more but can opt for a quick 30 minute pedi or the hour long (like we did) which includes a neck and head massage, and for the added luxuries - it's worth it. When you arrive you enter a serene space where mobile phone use is discouraged and you remove your shoes before being taken through to the treatment room. You'll be served a cup of warm tea. There's 6 cane lounges meaning there's no mass pedicure turn style happening here. The setting is more day spa than harshly lit salon. You're shown to your lounge and invited to soak your feet before a scrub is applied and wiped off. Then, with your eye mask on, you're transported to a moment of relaxation as the therapists combine gentle massage, pressure point massage and an actual pedicure. While your nails are drying (if you've opted for a nail varnish), your neck and head are gently massaged. Thankfully, we weren't rushed to leave our lounges post-treatment and were given ample time to warm back up to the idea of re-entering the real world. They also do Thai massage and facials so you could easily spend a day-spa day here and leave the worries of the world at the door! And, for the first time in my life, I get the benefits of a pedicure. Says I as I admire how shiny and smooth my feet look.

A friend recommended me to Pho Thai Spa on Brunswick Street in New Farm. I immediately booked myself in for the 45 minute pedicure package. Upon entering Pho Thai Spa, the first thing I noticed was the beautiful Thai decor. Long lounge chairs, dim lighting and green tea being brewed for my arrival. I knew immediately I was going to like it here. The lady who took care of me got me settled and soaked my feet in warm coconut water. Before preparing my feet for the pedicure side of things, she gave me the most amazing foot massage I have ever had, to the point where I had to concentrate to stay awake. It was exactly what the doctor ordered! After the massage she brought out a selection of OPI nail polish to choose from for my toenail colour. I was a bit sad once it was all over, but it felt like I was there for much longer than 45 minutes. My deluxe pedicure came to $65, and was worth every scent. It was such a fantastic pampering session and I'd happily recommend it to all of my friends. Another great thing is that as a new customer I was given a $20 voucher to use for my next visit...as if I needed more excuses ti come back! Plus I discovered that they do packages where a group of friends can book the spa for a few hours for $105 a person and receive massages and facials whilst drinking champagne. Sounds like heaven on Earth!

From the moment I walked in, I felt at home and very comfortable. The lady at the front desk greeted me with a smile, and although I did not have an appointment they fitted me right in. The shop was extremely tidy and clean, exactly what you would want and expect. The massage therapist that looked after me was named Dar. You could tell she certainly knew what she was doing. There was a wide range of massage therapies to choose from, I went with the deep tissue massage. I suffer from chronic neck pain and when I pointed this out, the massage therapist was very accommodating. She was also very co-operative with the pressure level I am comfortable with. This is where a lot of massage shops fail in not providing suitable pressure. I will be recommending Bangkok Thai Massage to all my friends!

This wouldn't bother me too much (I understand that businesses get busy and then get behind) but at 5th Avenue Beauty there are always two or three staff and only one other customer. I don't understand why they're behind when they have more staff than customers and two or three empty treatment rooms. When I finally get in to the treatment room, the waxing is fine. It's perfunctory, and there is no head massage or relaxation element to it, but the end result is decent enough. But I'm always a bit disappointed in the pain level (higher than I'd like) and the price (which is the same as what I've paid elsewhere but without service as good). The staff are perfectly nice, and my quest for neater eyebrows is always successful, but the whole experience is fairly basic and a bit of chore as opposed to elsewhere where getting hairs ripped from my face almost seems like a pampering. Also, don't be fooled by their hours. They say they're open Tues/Wed/Thurs 9am-9pm but when you read the fine print you find that it's only by appointment so that if you try to call for an appointment on one of those days you'll get no answer. 5th Avenue Beauty is convenient to where I live and useful in an eyebrow-related emergency, but it's never my first choice.

On my first session, Due to limited parking on Vernon terrace or surrounding streets I was 6 mins late, so upon arrival instead of being welcomed I was told by the therapist that next time they would have to take the time off my session as she has back to back appointments today. During my massage she kept talking and asking me where I was from because I didn't look Australian and had different skin and features. Then she asked me really irrelevant questions such as how long I have travelled to get there. On my 2nd session the owner was at reception and I was 5 minutes late again due to the parking issue. As I entered she asked me if I had been vaccinated for Covid and if not why not. Then she said that her staff had been vaccinated and that soon she is going to introduce a policy at her day spa to reject people entry who have not been vaccinated. I said vaccinations aren't mandatory yet by the government so she should stop asking intrusive questions. Then she told me to fill out a form with 4 really intrusive questions about vaccinations: have you been vaccinated? Are you on a waiting list for a vaccination? Which one, Pfizer or AstraZeneca? Something along those lines. She then said, you're late again and this time we will have to take the time off your massage but instead of taking me straight in she put me in a room to have tea for 10 mins taking another 10 mins off my massage. She said sorry but my staff has back to back appointments again. The whole time I was there I only saw this one staff she had booked up back to back 2 weeks in a row. I didn't turn up for my 3rd session as I felt super anxious going there because I didn't know what to expect this time. Halfway through this treatment I started coughing with a tickle in my throat because my sinuses were playing up which usually happens due to cheap essential oils in some cosmetic products. So the therapist left me for about 10 minutes and entered with a mask (which I realised she wasn't wearing the whole hour prior to my cough). Vaccines don't exclude you from wearing a mask, she should have been wearing one to begin with so that was another 10 mins taken off my session. Sadly I found this experience far from relaxing and pampering. The whole time I was there I felt resentful, tense and ripped off. In addition, the sheets and towel felt oily and unhygienic and the products used in my treatment were cheap. Absolute Waste of money. Apologies to my husband who had spent a while researching the best gift to get me for Mother's Day. This place is bringing down the vibes in a classy end of town. Spend your money on another day spa if you're looking to get pampered in a relaxing environment and not be judged.

My treatment room at Sakura on the other hand was actually two rooms and bigger than some hotel rooms I've stayed in (with two other people I might add). To say I was transported and then transformed probably sums it up. And the whole thing was made even better by the caring nature of the lady who looked after me. Can't wait to come back.

I found a fantastic deal on Its A Deal (dot com) which included a full body massage, body wrap, facial, head massage and body scrub. Upon arrival I realised that the salon was in an old Queenslander home, possibly the house of the owner. I walked in and was happily surprised that it looks very professional inside. You are asked to take your shoes off and relax. I was more than happy to do so. Around the waiting area were random ribbons and plastic flower buds stuck to the wall. Looked a bit cheesy, but I didn't mind. The staff are wonderful and so friendly. The lady who gave me the massage treatment was a wonderful person. I almost feel a bit guilty with this review, but I have to be honest... The massage was not the best it lacked technique. The body scrub was mediocre- I was actually surprised that was it. The facial lasted only a few minutes, nice and soft but didn't live up to a good standard. The wrap, yeah- I wasn't even sure that was it. I was due to go in at 4:30pm, I wasn't worked on until 4:45pm. The treatment ended at 5:50pm. So it was almost like having a one hour treatment as opposed to the one and half hour I expected. Although I was given a $50 voucher towards my next treatment, I'm not in a hurry to book the next one with them- unfortunately.

Despite having a somewhat altogether awkward time at my first session a few months ago, I went back for the second one this evening - second chances, value for money, time for improvement, yada yada yada. Sadly, nothing had changed. Walking up the front stairs of what feels like a regular ol' house for a massage just feels exceptionally dodgy. If only they'd put some sort of semi-professional looking sign on their front fence, or something. Anything. I can confirm that the rest of the house is a residence, because when I asked to use the bathroom, I had to be escorted through the living area, kitchen and dining room to get there. Yet more discomfort! As Jen has said, the service itself is brief and subpar. When the "mask" was applied, it felt like it had been diluted too much, because it poured off my face and through my hair. On the drive home, I was still rubbing bits of the mask off my face. It was a dark (mud?) mask, so it wasn't particularly cool to have it still all through my hair and not properly cleaned off my face. Really glad I went through the Maccas drive-through on the way home. I'm with Jen; I won't be making the mistake of purchasing another voucher for My Miracle Touch. I still see vouchers on daily deals sites all the time, so I assume it's the main source of customer flow. Good luck to them, because they're nice people, but unfortunately the awkward and unprofessional experience outweighs the nice manner.
