Beautiful park located on a peninsula in a river. The sites are all grassy. Some are more private…read morein the trees (four are walk-in tent sites), others are open with views of the river on two sides. None of the sites have hookups. There is an event dump station. The Comfort Station has clean washrooms and free, hot showers. There is a boat ramp right in the campground. There is also a day-use park, separate from the campground. The surrounding forest is a good mix of hardwoods and evergreens; probably very pretty in the fall when the leaves begin to change. This park is quite far from everything. Be sure to bring everything you will need, including food, with you. The staff are happy to help you in any way they can, and told us that the park gets very busy during the peak season, so be sure to reserve a site online or you may be out of luck. If you take your chances and arrive without a reservation, you need to use a self-check in kiosk. (Government cut backs!) We were here in mid-June. During the week we were the only campers :)

We spent the first full day relaxing at the campsite then did day trips away from the campground the following two days. Lots of people kayaking from the easy access boat launch at the campground. We loved the campground. The sites were easy to find at night with wide regular spacing between…read morerows. We had strong WiFi the speed was fast enough to stream 4k video to our firestick. The restrooms were spotless and even passed the fussy wife inspection. They were constructed of locally sourced sustainable materials. The best feature was the location, right on Nova Scotia trunk road 19 south of Chéticamp. We came for the Kitchenfest Gaelic music festival on Cape Breton and would travel to the Celtic Music Interpretive Center in Judique for their lunchtime ceilidh and north to the Doryman pub for night time shows. Walk down to the beach or just look at the water from your campsite. We plan to be back next year so look for us the first few weeks of July during Kitchenfest.

Seaside view, nice owners, nice restrooms and showers, a nightly campfire and mussel feast. Here are the reasons I have trouble liking this place. All of the reasons we stayed there were centered around activities we wanted to do Supposedly they offered boat scenic rides, fishing trips, mussel digs, fresh lobster for sale, fresh muscles for same and fresh bread for sale. None of this stuff was available when we arrived. It was its just us in a camper paying full price ad we had it's nothing to do for 2 days. We left early because of this reason. Total Suck

I can't give much of a review for this campground. We arrived late in the pouring rain and left…read moreearly the next morning. It's less than half an hour from the Newfoundland ferry terminal in North Sydney, so we weren't the only ones using it as a one night pit stop. The campground is easy to find. It's on the Trans Canada Highway, snug between a lake and the bottom of a cliff. Note: you need to drive along the cliff base on your way in. It is marked with "beware of falling rocks" signs. The campground is terraced on three levels. There are 3W and 2W sites, and unserviced sites. Our site was a pull through 3W. There was a row of them, about 50' x 30' each. As I said, we arrived late in the pouring rain, so we appreciated that they were waiting for us, and guided us to & into our site in their golf cart. The site (23) was level and had both 30amp & 50amp hookups. The wifi was non-existent at our site. The campground staff did warn us that the wifi was iffy at best. The campground overlooks the lake (nice!) and the highway (not so much). Unfortunately, you can hear every transport truck as it engine-brakes coming down from the bridge. It is noisy. It's okay for a night, but I wouldn't camp there if I could find something with less noise and/or larger sites.

The…read moreMermaid and the Cow is the only LGBT campground in Atlantic Canada, and maybe it's the only one we need! Jane and Susan are lovely and hospitable, and have thought of everything. There are four non-gendered full bathrooms, a pool, a huge screened-in gazebo for mosquito-y nights, a variety of campsites, running water taps throughout, and a firepit at each site. On our first night, there was a terrible rainstorm, so Jane and Susan had the brilliant idea of a fun movie night in the screened-in gazebo, which meant we didn't feel bad about not being able to have a campfire. Happily, the rest of the weekend was perfect weather, so we could swim, watch the cows and horses, and explore the area. If the Keurig coffee isn't enough, you're about half an hour from either Tatamagouche or Pictou, both of which have sweet cafes and restaurants. Just down the road there is also Deb's Hidden Cafe, which serves as a store, a bar, a diner and a bakery!
