The atmosphere of the Amish people driving horse and buggy, boys in suspenders and straw hats while girls wear their bonnets and traditional dresses, the courtesy the men show, clothing hanging on the clothesline, bare feet, fresh produce - I love it. I didn't understand, and said "But that's what I asked for." She replied "It's cheese, and that's vegetarian!" I did not understand her anger. I said "I'll take one". She angrily grabbed a plastic bag and cardboard container, angrily shoved the slice inside, threw the thing at me and stalked off in a huff. I looked at the cashier who saw the entire exchange. He said nothing. Not "I'm sorry for your experience" , or "Would you like to speak with a manager?" Nothing. I asked "Are they always so dismissive of customers?". He replied "I can't control other people". By this time my stomach was in knots, so I quietly told him I did not want the slice and left, but not without hearing him call after me facetiously "HAVE A NICE DAY!". What the hell happened? Who pissed in their coffee?
