Throughout my visit while browsing at this antique mall, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged. I heard…read moreand watched the staff speak to everyone that wasn't a minority. They strictly greeted and spoke to the white people. I lived in Mississippi for 6 1/2 years, so I was well aware of the blatant racism. I specifically came in looking for vintage glass to add to my collections. I spotted a carnival glass candy jar that took my liking. As one of the shop staff walked in front of me. I asked for his help to retrieve it from the top shelf. He walked past me ignoring my request. That was rude, but of course I wasn't white so I guess he didn't need to help me. A few of the other patrons starred at me as I continued on with browsing. I located a Viking candy dish that was 20% off. This particular piece had been on my wishlist for years and finally seen it for a good price. I snagged it up. While at the register, the female staff member roped me into openly judging this transgender individual who was checking out before me. This individual wore all black. The staff member was quite insensitive with her comments and kept referring to her probably going to a witch festival. She asked me what I thought about this transgender person? My response was, no comment and I'm not getting into it. Frankly, it wasn't none of business to gossip about the other individual that I have no idea what their struggles are in life. I'm not making mockery of no one. The high temperatures was 98 degrees on a Saturday, guess what this antique store didn't have any form of air conditioning. Only fans blowing hot air in some parts of the store. Most of the inventory was vintage glass, war memorabilia, old furniture, linens, quilts, baskets, farmhouse vintage, art, and a few art deco lamps. This was by far the most unreasonably priced antique store I've been to. A lot of stuff was price gouged. Some of the vintage glass had flea bites and large chips on them not worth $15 - $55. That couldn't be a collectable item. Pyrex bowl set was individually priced and not for the set. A vintage spice rack with paper towel holder was $35, wtf. Too darn high for used items. A lot of booths had vintage glass covered in dust because clearly they aren't selling. I most likely won't be back due to how they treat minorities and transgender folk. It's 2024 and these people still living back in the segregation times.

Next door is Magnolia Flea and that is my favorite place all around to find lots great finds! 49…read moresouth is alright and I have found a few items there also. Definitely make the drive out there!

I frequent this store everytime coming back from Gulf Shores prior moving to the local flea market (see picture for location). The biggest highlight for me stopping over is the food. I love home made churn butter & hoop cheese. Their home made wheat, and raisin breads are the freshest breads I have eaten next to my local bakeries a small bit of butter or home made jams complimented each slice. Side of hoop cheese made this a excellent breakfast snack.      The cashiers' a pleasure. With her friendly attitude & helpful in finding any particular product I was seeking or interested me in a bestseller & personal recommendations. Outside of the food offered. Other merchandise available such as a few antiques collectables, knick knacks & other old items found at a country general store. The suspense & eagerness to visit their store again is intense. I have to visit Captain Amish at their flea market location next road trip & I currently live further then Marion.    I do recommend locals or anyone driving thru to make this a stop on a road trip or enjoyable part of their flea market visit.  I included some extra food recommendations below the FB link. Be sure to like on FB & tell a friend https://www.facebook.com/captainsamishstore/ Recommendations: lemon squares apple pie & Home made Sticky Buns.

Furniture from Mennonites in MO. plus other great stuff Capt. Richard Gatewood finds from all over. Lots of cool stuff here!!! This is a super cool store with something for most people. My sons loves the cheese and butter. I like the fresh baked bread and the raw local honeys and some of the artisan items are hard to pass on. There's so much going on here from the small glass baseball refrigerator magnets to the 8 foot concrete painted alligator to the cheese curds and the vine ripe tomatoes. They have a truly eclectic selection of, how did they used to say it in the good old days, goods and wares. What got my attention initially was the homemade goods like the jams, jellies, relishes, 40 types of cheeses and Amish butter and it keeps me coming back for more. This place actually reminds me of a cross between an old country stores in Appalachia and a roadside stand in Amish country Pennsyavania with hand crafted furniture and lawn ornaments and shelves full of canned pepers and chow chow. It's just plain cool!! They don't have a website that I can finfld but there's a Facebook page at:wew.facebook.com/captainsamishstore/ and a local business listing at: http://www.visitmeridian.com/index.cfm/shop/all-shop/captains-amish-ole-country-store/
