Her door is usually wide open with a beautiful painting on the sidewalk. The walls of her studio are covered in her art- mostly ocean scenery, with some forestry paintings as well as her grandchildren (who look very life like) and other commissioned art. Her paintings come to life and seem to jump right off the canvas- they are that real looking! The colors are to die for and you can't help but get a good warm feeling when you see her art and feel the emotions she has so perfectly painted into the scene. The material is a cross between contemporary and folk art, but is described by the artist as "3-D". Much of it is hauntingly composed of pop art elements with a personal message that stayed obscure for me as a new viewer. Much reflects this former Chicago Tribune cartoonist's sense of humor. There is a great collection of writing cards featuring JCL's cartoons withd wry captions. For example, a Mickey Mouse face is broken into parts and the caption reads, "If Mickey Mouse was made by Dali." I especially liked the work made of rusted, vintage tricycles. A look through the house window reveals a garden sculpture made into a merry-go-round of red trike seats with a large red apple at the hub.

Olga works alongside her daughter Leeza Arkhangelskaya who joined the business in 2013. According to the East West Fine Art website, they specialize in "contemporary international artists, with a focus on Russian and Eastern European fine art." There is a list of 80 artists on the website along with upcoming gallery events. I was drawn into East West by the art of Annalu who was born in San Donà del Piave, Italy. From the bio on the website, "the major focus of her works is on the theme of water, primeval central element of life. Water is the origin of all things: everything is made of water and everything returns to water, as the Greek philosopher Thales believed. An artist disciple of metamorphosis intent to penetrate the mysteries of creation, capable of assembling in­congruent elements such as resins and paper, bark and fiberglass, bi­tumen and sand, cement and roots, to create new realities, suspended worlds where alchemy is lightness." I am not an art critic so I am not sure what all of that means but I know I like it. Tiny colorful butterflies make up the leaves of trees while other pieces of art are colorful resin circles. Realistically it is all out of my price range but I enjoyed window shopping. If you are in the market to purchase, a Yelp check in can net net you $1,000 off certain pieces of art. I think that is the most money off I ever seen in a Yelp check in. Tucking that away for later. Seriously, these ladies are highly educated and obviously know what they are doing so if you are looking to purchase art in the Naples area, you will want to pay East West a visit.
