Maybe he softened up that day! :) Anyway, when we visit Germany, we live in Karlsruhe with long time friends ( a 40 minute drive from The Zuckerladen) ... and it is always one of the very first stops we make after we arrive in Deutschland. The owner is a charming and eccentric soul... The Willy Wonka of Heidelberg, and the candy he has selected for his customers is out of this world - from the standard German Gummi bears, to extremely amazingly fine chocolate, and everything in-between. Its location is also delightfully charming- situated in a nice cozy little part of town. A MUST when you visit Heidelberg... for the chocolate, and everything else that comes along with it. Pretty much exactly the opposite of everything Dylan's, It'Sugar, Sugar Factory, etc. -- those stale chains and flagships. Such great warmth and charm. A Heidelberg highlight, and a must see when visiting!

Some unusual ones (at least compared to American candy stores.) Got a mix of gummy bears (can never resist), frogs, and marshmallows. All quite good! A bit pricy - that probably owes more to the Euro vs the dollar than anything else - but worth it.
