You have to be very careful of sell by dates - even the long life milk might be out of date by tomorrow and the same applies to the fresh fruit and veg, you have to check everything very carefully, the other week I had to tell them that half the lemons were going green and fuzzy, one was even sporting a nifty beard (this might just be specific to the Darmstadt branch). The prices really aren't that good, you can usually buy it at the same price or cheaper elsewhere (especially electrical goods). And the cafe there is terrible. One of the worst I've ever been in. I've been to wholesale places in the UK and Metro doesn't live up to the name.

A fairly new store so things are laid out well with huge rows and great parking (when there's no overflow from the rejects at Segmueller) - quite a bit of it is covered which is nice in the winter. Unfortunately shopping at warehouse stores doesn't mean you get a better price on things so you have to watch outbut the selection of specialty items can't be beat. Those looking for American products will love Metro - this is the only one so far where we've found Louisiana Hot Sauce. Oh, you need a membership to get in the door so you'll need a card via your own business or to go with a friend who has a card.

There is no fee, so it's pretty nice. You can buy food items in bulk, home items, things for the garden, wine, home appliances, office supplies, and a variety of fish, meat, produce, and frozen items. There were two ladies at the information desk. I asked politely (in German) if anyone spoke English, luckily one was able to assist me. They took my letter, inputted my name in the computer, asked me to fill out some paperwork, took my picture and gave me a membership card. The store is huge. I spent a good 40 minutes walking around during my first visit. I didn't buy anything except a big pack of Brita filters. It was 30 euros for a box of 8! Definitely cheaper buying in bulk rather than at REWE or Globus.
