I am a carpenter of 30+ years experience, and had used Hurd products in the 80's when they were a quality reputable manufacturer........ Unfortunately I did not do my homework and discovered too late what sort of company they now are.
I am now stuck with what is really a $400 quality big-box door, but at a $1600 price.
I actually had to think hard to even give Hurd a one star rating.......... You really should avoid them.
The issue isn't strictly their product quality (all though that is very poor), it's their absolute lack of customer service, warranty integrity, responsiveness, and pride in their product.
My issue with them has been regarding a new all wood, all glass door that I purchased from them in 2014 for a home remodeling project.
The door unit itself was shipped with manufacturing flaws (a split hinge side stile, skewed/open joinery).
This low quality door was then hung in an improperly sized and assembled frame ( too narrow of a width, way too tall of a length, poor quality joinery, and with ALL of the strike hardware installed so improperly that the door will not close without force and damage to the door edge).
From they moment I conveyed my concerns to the lumber yard through which I purchased their product, to the present, Hurd's customer reps have nothing but delay ........ In the end, after much delay in communication, all the will offer you is replacement parts that you will have to install.
In my case that means entirely rehanging and reinstalling a "high-end" door unit, and receiving NO compensation for that labor.
AND, in the end, I will still be stuck with at best a poor to medium quality product. read more
