They were super friendly and let you enjoy the space and your company. They serve you water as soon as you are seated and then ask you what you'd like. I had the Lucy while my friend had the Coffee Ale. The sizes come in Pony, Mare, or Stallion! My friend loved the coffee ale. I'm not the biggest beer fan but the Lucy was light. We started to chit-chat with the bartenders and they showed us this chili vodka! He had me at "Chili..." My friend had the Bloody Mary and she kept raving how it was tomato soup for adults. She loved it! The bartender was great and nervous about creating a drink for me. We went with a pineapple chili vodka with a touch of mint. Yum! It needs some fine tuning but the foundation is set. We were having a great time and as if beer to vodka wasn't enough, we moved right along to tequila! Yes, some quality tequila and verdita. I'm a huge fan and they explained to us how quality tequila is for sipping. We didn't want to leave but the time had come. Thankfully, I know I'll be coming back very soon. Thanks for a great Introduction.

I'd always heard Bellissimo was good but I'd just never had a chance to try it…read more We rocked up mid-Sunday afternoon after a hard days couch shopping over at Homemaker City and we pleased to find the cafe/roastery buzzing but not too busy. We spent some time perusing their sizeable coffee bean selection from Australian to Single Origin Kenyan, Indian and Indonesian. Happy to report that yes you do get a free coffee with bean purchase :-) Of course we zeroed in in the all important snacking menu and were pleasantly rewarded to find many tasty options often sequestered to bfast menus on w/ends. Partner went for the avo on toast w/ lemon and I dived on a cheese & tomato toasty (simple but sooooo good!). Coffee is strong and well made. Prices were average & portions were decent. Staff were friendly and service was fairly prompt. Great afternoon reviver spot!

Some beans have gotten close, but none have ever quite measured up. As a coffee shop they're just OK. They're pretty small, though the upstairs has now been converted to a bungalow with seats and the like. The focus here is the roasting, and the layout of the coffee shop pretty much lets you know that. You'd have to be blind to miss the giant roaster right by the door or the huge bins of roasted beans. That's not to say they're not a good coffee shop, but if you're looking for the coffee shop atmosphere of just hanging out there are better coffee shops, but they're coffee isn't as good. Seating is a bit thin and on the lower floor is just a couple of benches and some standing room at the bar. Their menu is basic, but everything on it is absolutely amazing. It's also the only, and I do mean only, place that I've seen PECAN PIE in Australia. I told my classmates that it is a thing, I actually tried to make it for them with only some small degree of success, but there it is on their shelf. It is also delicious.

The setting is very nice with a bamboo lined wooden deck that is reasonably well shielded from Oxford street. Service was prompt and friendly. Coffee came out lightning fast. With a group of five we ordered from across the menu, as you can see in the photos. I ordered the Riverbend brekkie; at $20 the most expensive on the menu, but it was not stellar. The sausage was great however and almost worth the entire plate. Reviews on the Avo (beautifully presented on nice sourdough - see pics) were good, but the cheese was a bit bland. I didn't get any reports on the shroom on sourdough and on the croque madame, the latter of which looked quite good and was conquered in record time. Overall, a very nice place with friendly staff, but not Wow. I wouldn't hesitate to go back at all, but with so many great options around I won't go out of my way: 3 stars.

Surprisingly, it actually has a touch of exoticness because of the bamboo, but it's equally matched with a quaint bookshop to counteract that. The meal I got was a little on the bijou side of things for the price I paid, but I think that comes with the territory on Oxford Street. That doesn't seem to deter anyone though because it's always very busy with people passing through. Their website has a great little news section so you can keep up to date with all its latest happenings. Stop in at this little landmark for breakfast or lunch and take a look through their bookshop while you're at it. The teahouse is open until 5pm, 7 days a week but the bookshop has differing times.

I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said, but this place really does serve a delicious coffee! Their coffee isn't as strong as some places around Brissy, but it fits my liking. I mean, does your local coffee shop have a machine that reads a coffee profile from a USB? No. I didn't think so. There's a coffee menu and for the time being no food, but I'm told it is to come. It won't be a full menu, just pastries etc. I ordered a Flat White on the No. 14 blend by Cleanskin which also goes nicely through an Aeropress. Really though, the No. 14 sparkles when served with milk. Smooth, creamy and subtly handsome. Mmm... that coffee hit the spot!

The baristas are exceptionally skilled, and there is a selection of roasts to choose from. While I normally like my coffee black, something that isn't too hard to make, I've had a few flat whites from Penny which have been excellent. A friend of mine asked if they're able to pull a piccolo using soy milk, without the milk splitting. Despite indicating that the barista don't need to try if they haven't made one before, they produced one (after two failed attempts) by slowly adjusting the extraction to the point where they could add a shot to soy milk without producing soy cheese. Doing this despite explicitly not needing to is the sort of above and beyond that earns long-term customers. The food is similarly stellar. The avo on sourdough may at first blush seem like a pricier version of what everyone else is doing. The flavours in Penny's version are, however, inventive and balanced to a point I haven't had elsewhere. There's a nice balance between the feta, dukkah and pomegranate where you can taste all of them without one overpowering the other. The vegetabowl is similarly great. There's just enough of each ingredient that you can taste them, without the dish being overpowered by one note. Penny's interior makes maximal use of the space. There are comfortably sized tables out front and inside, and some bar seating by the espresso machine. The best seats in the house, though, are out back, and include a few longer tables. The staff at Penny are attentive, friendly and great at pulling a coffee and making food.
