Been going there since moving to the area 15 years ago but won't be going back again. $13 for chips is crazy!!!! They've lost their mojo since they started hiring young Indian blokes.... The service is semi rude, super slow and unwelcoming. Used to be run by an amazing Greek family who don't seem to be there anymore.

We dropped in on a late Saturday evening (around 8:00pm). It was busy with most customers getting takeout to go. They were a bit slow getting our order cooked but c'est la vie. Menu is up on the walls. You can also order seafood to cook at home. There's a couple combinations to choose from but it's mostly fish and chips. - Seafood delight pack ($28.00 AUD) - 2 fish of the day, chips, 2 prawns, 2 calamari, 2 potato cakes, salad, lemon and tartar. The best thing was the fish; fresh, flaky and nicely battered. The rest was really salty, greasy and soggy. The fries had an unpleasant dry texture. The salad was unremarkable (I can make a better one at home) but at least you get something healthy to counter all the grease. The calamari was dry and chewy. Potato cakes needed some seasoning. The prawns were decent. Also bizarre is that they make their own tartar sauces but didn't give us any to try. Instead, we got two squeeze packets of cheap quality tartar. Would not come back. Ever.

Anyway, it was time for lunch, and the only option was takeaway, and this place was just within my radius, so we decided to check it out. Well, I have to admit that it was pretty disappointing. Yeah, for a fish and chip shop it really wasn't all that good. The chips were pretty bad, and the fish wasn't that great either, so I wouldn't be recommending it.

It looks very much like any other place along the street. Kitchen that protrudes into much of the interior space, with a few tables along the long wall inside. A number of tables on the sidewalk. You go inside and place your order. We decided to go with the Flake and the Barramundi, each with fries and with the Asian salad. Managed to find a table outside. I'll be honest the noise from the street is very loud, hence there isn't any type of romance of a sidewalk cafe here. The server brought our meals out to the table and made sure that we had the condiments box as well. I went with grilled Barramundi and it was seasoned up beautifully and grilled to perfection. My wife got the deep fried Flake and it was cooked perfectly. The Fries were hot and fresh along with the very crisp Asian salad. I went with the chili lime aioli. Overall, I didn't expect much out of this little fish and chips place. I was hugely surprised. Excellent fish, fries and salad. If you are going there hoping for ambiance, you should probably look else where. But if you want a really fantastic meal of fish and chips. Definitely hit up Pink Flake.

I would…read morenot be horribly opposed to stopping by again, but with all the shops down Acland Street, you can definitely find somewhere that is higher quality. The shop itself is a bit rundown with few tables inside, a counter to order, and tiny wooden tables outside. They had a menu of burgers as well as Fish and Chips (also seafood specials of calamari, fish, etc.) There was only one employee there, and he told me they didn't have any burgers at all that day, only Fish and Chips or the seafood basket. A bit disappointing, but that is okay so I just went ahead and ordered Fish and Chips for 8.90 and it comes with a soft drink you grab yourself. The food is freshly made and comes out in approximately 10 minutes (not bad of a wait for fresh Fish and Chips!). The fish was really really good! Tender, fresh, and delicious! The chips could use a bit of work though. They were a bit tough on the outside and chalky on the inside. NOTES: ~ You can add sea salt, chicken salt, pepper, and lemon juice for extra flavouring. ~ Ketchup is 35 cents a pack. ~ In the restaurant, they have a few arcade games you can play, but they're old and from the 80s so it probably wouldn't be very entertaining. Like I said, I would not be horribly opposed to stopping by. The food is alright quality, but nothing I would be excited about. Things they can improve on: ~ Customer service. The man was not very friendly. He seemed kind of bored. ~ Livening the place up a bit. It is very plain and run-down in compared to the livelihood of the rest of Acland Street. Not very attractive. ~ Improving on the quality of the chips. They were edible, but could be a lot better.

But sometimes, you don't want creme brulee, sometimes, you feel like jello (if you get my drift and quote). And on Acland, that's where Harry's steps in. It's not a-la-carte, but the burgers (when you can get one apparently!) are juicy and delish. The seafood is fresh and the chips greasy, as you'd expect being near the sea and being a traditional fish n chip shop. Harry's isn't a place you go for ambience or a dinner date, but it is damn good greasy food (which is not so greasy, actually), for when you've got the craving.
