And by car Roskilde is like a suburb to Copenhagen within easy commute. The rooms are fresh and nice like in most (but not all) Scandic hotels and the breakfast buffet is generous. Not sure about the vegan options apart from fruit, tea and coffee. But for vegetarians it's a decent selection. Stay away from the cheese though, Danish cheeses are inexplicably nasty and very smelly.

We checked in on Saturday after a grueling day of international travel with two children. There was hardly a welcome, no help with the bags, and the small dusty rooms faced a busy parking lot. Since there is no air conditioning, the doors remained open to the busy parking lot all night. Our children were not allowed in the pool at any time; you must be 16 years old. The outside beach area was littered with broken glass and cigarettes from the prior evening. To be moved to a water facing room, we were upcharged and one of the two new rooms wasn't ready until 4pm. Probably best as a lunch spot before or after touring Kronburg...I would never sleep at this hotel again.

It is right by the water and with the Helsingør castle view, beautifully done renovation, classical French style but in a Nordic clean and minimalistic way. The food has been wonderful, even the smørrebrød lunch I got was so good, yes even the pickled fish tasted good. Wonderful atmosphere, service minded staff and one of the best locations in Denmark. I am thinking that this must be a top wedding venue choice. I would love to go back for a weekend stay.

The restaurant is in the lower level of the castle. The spacing within the restaurant was generous and commodious. The food was very creative, both in its presentation and taste. However, the wine pairings were not up to my expectations, and we were only served one red wine towards the end of the meal. We ended up cancelling a course, as the evening dragged on several times towards the end of the meal. There were two or three occasions that we waited 20 or more minutes between courses. Though we were seated for our meal at 7:30, and there were others who came in after us, we were the last to leave after 1 am!!! Entirely too much time, which is why we cancelled the time consuming apple tea service, which would have significantly added to the length of the dinner. We were so full and tired at that point, as we walked to our room, we then decided not to go down for breakfast the next morning though it was included in our hotel package. Our server, Antony, was most knowledgeable about the food and wines and helped make the evening enjoyable. I would return to this Michelin Starred restaurant, but only for a 6 or 6:30 seating. Also, I would not get the wine pairing, instead preferring to either make my own selection by the glass, or by the bottle.
