The bill permits a New Jersey notary public, to notarize documents for an individual who is located remotely, provided that certain requirements are met. The remote online notarization (RON) restrictions allow individuals to utilize remote online solutions to remotely conduct business. One example of this type of solution is DocuSign’s which when combined with audio-video conferencing technologies, allow individuals to perform remote notarization in certain states. While remote notarization may be convenient in some cases, an in-person document execution while observing social distancing may be a better option in many others.
