Accommodation is in three separate locations; The White House, which has three self catering flats; The Lodge, a small detached house suitable for a married couple; and The Cottage, which has a lounge/dining room and a library room. Internet facilities are available with TV and phone services. What more? It has 8 rooms and costs as much as £122 per week. Not bad for this cute cottage looking place, with all the modern facilities. So if you like the country side but still want to be near the city life, this wouldn't be a bad place to pick.

Situated in the beautiful village of Didsbury, it has a far more middle class location that do its counterpart undergraduate halls in Fallowfield. Its got a beautiful garden and green area and its really more like a gorgeous holiday retreat than university accommodation! Of course it doesnt have the fun factor of Fallowfield and the City Centre, and its not a hub of student fun, but if you're a family or older student then you probably wont want this anyway. In terms of the luxury of the place, its probably the best on offer. Its self-catering as well so you don't have to eat university grub, and though its furnished, you provide all your own utensils and that kind of thing, so it can really be made into a family home. Central heating and that is included in the weekly price so really its quite cheap accommodation and you're unlikely to get anything like this kind of quality housing, location and amenities for the price elsewhere. However, its only got eight rooms in the whole complex, so its not easy to get a place here. You'd better get on it if you're interested.

On applying to the University of Manchester, I had no inclination to look at accommodation, so chose blindly from the online list. Luckily for me, I struck gold with Weston Hall. I say gold. Perhaps I mean fools gold. Weston, superficially, is fantastic. It is wonderful for centralised, city living. The rooms are small but well equipped, with individual en-suites, and are in flat layouts of 8 rooms with a large kitchen and living room area. The main problem with Weston Hall is consistency. Some flats have beautiful (well, comparatively) open plan Kitchen/Lounge areas. Some flats have access to the hall lift. Some flats take the form of an L shaped, private area, whereas others are nothing more than secure sections of corridor. Unfortunately for me, I have to climb 4 flights of stairs every time I want to get to the flat, as the lift is through 2 locked doors. I have a kitchen with no window or adequate ventilation, and my flat is one of the 'secure unit' corridors. However, despite these shortcomings, Weston really is one of the best student accommodation blocks available in Manchester. Everything is kept to a fairly high standard in terms of decoration and maintenance, and an active Residents Association, who organise all sorts of events, serves the hall. There is a laundry room (which, if I am honest, is vile - underground with no natural light, and about enough appliances for a hall half the size), which overcharges for your washing, a common room with occasional bar and a reception area which operates from 7am-1pm Monday through Friday. The Hall tutors are excellent, and will always be on hand to help you with any problems. If you want cleaners, 24/7 reception and a full bar every evening, then Weston is not the hall for you. However, if you want en-suite rooms, large communal areas, and are unafraid of meeting new and interesting people (and doing your fair share of cleaning!), then look no further.

I currently live in Whitworth Park and I really enjoy it. When i first got here i did think why…read moredid I not choose Fallowfield, but in the long run I'm really glad I live here. All the complaints the others put down about Whitworth Park are the things I like- there are loads of international students and english ones to and Ive ended up with friends from all over the world and country. My friends that live in Fallowfield seem to have only made friends with people from the same place and backround as them. It is pretty peaceful in Whitworth at exam time but there are also great parties and bbqs now the summer is here. There is lots of space to hangout and a great gym and everyone is really friendly. The staff here are also really lovely and actually like the students. The best thing for me is I feel like i am living in Manchester- not in Fallowfields which seems really far out of whats going on. Its great being close to Curry Mile and I go there a lot for food and sheesha. There are great bars nearby- like Big Hand, gigs every night at teh Academy and as a woman I have never felt unsafe, even walking back alone after a night out. the best thing is you can walk into town easily, get a bus or get a taxi so living here doesnt cost a fortune. Whitworth Park is great if you are on a budget as its the cheapest- and because of this you avoid having to live with spoilt brats. There is a real mix of interesting people here. Its good for making you go into Uni as it is 2minutes away and at exam periods because the library is so close. Its also good for nightlife as it is cheap to get back from clubs and pubs (£5/6 in a taxi from the center). Lidls is a god send- you can live like a king on a students budget from there- the quality and price is better then asda or sainsburys- £8 for a bottle of rum! Room sizes are luck of the draw- there are small rooms, medium (good) size rooms and really large rooms- but everyone pays the same price. There is the art gallery and museum to take your mum to when she comes to visit. SOme flats in whitworth are more sociable than others due to their location, but in the end its up to you to make friends rather than where you live. Also- famous people lived here like Engels (obviously not in these halls but on the street they were built on) so hopefully some of that intelligence will rub off on me...

It is a great little area with many buildings togther, all 3 storeys and they even have a bar, a gym and a squash court. The rooms- If you're lucky you may get a lovely big room with big windows, but if you're the unfortunate type like me, you may end up with a really small space, more like a little store room and be not so thrilled to have people over due to obvious space constraints! But this place is amazing according to convinience! Minutes from university buildings, you can manage getting up at 8:45 for a 9 am lecture and still make it! McD's, Subway, Greggs and Mc Colls all just under the Halls. It makes you a little spoilt definitely, though I never complained! The Grovel is probably the cheapest bar I've ever been to and it has a friendly atmosphere and a great place to make friends!

It looks majestic and is one of the really popular halls in the city campus. Very helpful to live in if you're an engineering or science student at the University since most of your campus would be just a minute's walk away. It consists of 11 floors with 15 rooms on each floor, so that's a lot of freinds you would be making on a single floor! Each room is washbasin equipped and the bathroom is shared. There is a kitchen and common area on each floor. They have all facilities like a laundrette, internet and phone lines. A great hall to be at and is always very very lively!

I'm going to stick to my guns and say that Owens Park is still the best university hall. I think…read moreits definitely the centre of Fallowfield, which is in turn he centre of Manchester student life. However, I'm going to put Sheavyn House in at number 2, at the expense of Oak House. The reason for this is that whilst Oak House is just a slightly worse version of Owens Park, Sheavyn is good for different reasons. First and foremost, it is in Fallowfield. This is the most important factor, as its literally where all the young foolish student fun happens, and what is the point of university without that? Whereas Owens Park is quite grim, Sheavyn is a pretty little halls. Owens Park smells of old beer and horrible food from the previous night, whereas as Sheavyn has trees and grass. Its just at the edge of Fallowfield, making it right there where the fun is to be found, but whereas at OP there's no getting away from it, Sheavyn is in its own large peaceful ground, making quiet rest or study a nice alternative to the raucous shenanigans of Fallowfield proper.

Come here without a friend and you're definitely leaving with two! A very friendly and warm enviornment. with lush green surroundings and also a supportive community. It has en suite flats shared by 9 people and also bedsits. But by an experience of a friend, I've learnt that bedsits are a pretty lonely option to go for since it pretty much isolates you from socialising and making the most of University accomodation. Its very near the bus stop and has all the other necessites around it, making it a very ideal location to choose. All in all, its a great place to start your university at!

Ok so I might be more than a little biased. But Ashburne Hall really is the creme de la creme of…read morethe University of Manchester's Halls of Residence. First of all, it's situated in the Fallowfield campus, which is the optimum location for fresher student digs, because Fallowfield is where it all happens! And it's still uber convenient with bus stops in both directions just outside the halls. The main appeal of Ashburne, a mon avis, is the room size. My room here was easily three times the size of my room at home, complete with bay windows overlooking the lawn. It was fantastic. So pretty, and so spacious and just generally very lovely. Not all of the rooms were quite as big as mine, there appears to be quite a variety in room size. But even the smallest rooms are a decent size, and still bigger than ones in most other halls. There is a lot of greenery around the hall with a large lawn area in front. It looks pretty all year round but comes into play in particular in Summer when you can revise in the sunshine, play a bit of frisbee or football or just lounge about. Ashburne is a catered hall. Your fees include breakfast and dinner Monday-Friday. You're left to fend for yourself at lunchtime and the weekends, so basic kitchens are provided in each corridor. Breakfast is easily my favourite meal of the day, and the selection on offer doesn't disappoint: full English, porridge, croissants, toast, crumpets, cereals, dried fruit, fresh fruit, yoghurts etc etc. Dinner is slightly more touch and go. I'm not a fussy eater so I had nothing to complain about, but some of my hallmates did whinge every now and then. It's typical hall-food though, so it will be the same wherever you go catered. The hall is arranged into long corridors, so you don't necessarily get the closeness you find in the flats of other halls. However the advantage of being catered means that everyone has the opportunity to mix and mingle at meal times so you meet people throughout the entire hall, as opposed to just people in your flat. Decent range of facilities too. There are three common rooms, they're all in dire need of an update, but they function nonetheless. The main common room has a pool table, but this can sometimes be subject to abuse from people who choose this room to congregate in before a night out. Around the back we have a tennis court which can also double as a netball or football pitch. Handy really. I loved my time at Ashburne, and a lot of my friends from other halls openly admitted to being jealous. Schwing!

It has almost everything that a good uni acommodation should have. - good rooms, of decent size - a music room - laundrette - computer cluster It also has surprising things like a piano in the music room and one of the perks of this place is that if you're lucky you may find most of your books in the Library here! Yes, they have a university library! woo-hoo for that! Yet, this isn't the most wanted! Why? Because it simply lacks that exciting it factor that the most happening halls need! But other than that, it is just one step below the 'most wanted' list.

Grosvenor Place should really be the perfect location for a student of The University of…read moreManchester. Located literally a three minute walk from the Manchester Student's Union and amongst the university buildings themselves, Grosvenor should be the perfect studentville. However, its just not. For some reason the student population of Manchester University have made Fallowfield, rather than the actual university area, their real home. Its basically the unofficial students union, in whole village form. This leaves the non-Fallowfield residences somewhat struggling. Its remarkable how little there is going on in and around the Union in the hours after 6pm. Everyone packs up their bags, and goes elsewhere for fun. The tendency of the Union and Manchester Academy to play host to gigs aimed at young depressed teenage emos in pink and black clothes with nose piercings, probably does contribute to the centripetal forces operating on the area. Having said that, Grosvenor themselves are a lovely little halls community. And apparently they are in high demand so if you want to go there you need to register your interest early. The flats contain eight students with a shared kitchen and bathroom, and are spacious with nice big round kitchen tables for sitting around on the long nights in that are forced upon you by the fact that there is nothing going on outside.

Very nice place - only problem is, Freddy Krueger has a room just off the living room on the ground…read morefloor. It is otherwise a treat, only 4 people share this quaint little charming old gardener's house (5 if you count Freddy) and all are postgrads only! The rooms are all good sized (except the sm single room - it is tiny and next to the only full bathroom...) and while there is only 1 bath w/ over hanging shower, there are 2 toilets (one ground level and the other in the bathroom on first floor). It has a washer and a tumble dryer! and a sweet garden to be envied with apple trees which produce nice apples in the spring. South facing windows allow for a reasonable amount of light for the house, and the bills included makes keeping this place warm is a piece of cake. Oh, and cleaners come twice a week during term times! The postcode is not officially registered with Royal Mail, so expect to get lots of grief from pre-filled address fields (like if you want to order a new phone or Netflix for example) and many missing packages! They will go to the Owen's Park office, but I suspect they may take some things as my mother is not in the habit of lying about sending me care packages... All in all, it is a great little place which allows for a wonderful place to call home for the duration of your studys.

Tramways is a great place to live. It is like a little community and everyone knows everyone…read moremeaning you feel very safe. The staff, Mark and Sabina are brilliant and are always helpful. It is very close to uni and the buses stop at the end of the road to get into town. I would reccomend it to Salford Uni students ;-)
