A beautiful day for a hike! Every time I do this hike it's a little different. Today the waterfall…read morewas cold and bracing and there were a lot of people hiking the falls. We started out around 8:45 AM and by the time we reached the waterfall, it was getting full of families and pairs of hikers. I recommend go early to skip the crowds. The hike itself isn't too technical and there are only a few places where you have to step up high over a rock or scramble through a stream.

Here are clear and concise directions for this hike!!…read more Main parking off Pali hwy. Entrance is easily visible. You'll enter the bamboo forest. Within the first 50 feet it will split into a Y trail, take the left path. If you go straight you'll likely end up in the bamboo section for 20-40 mins. If you do not exit the bamboo area within 10 mins, you're lost. You'll exit the bamboo area through a lifted/broken section of the fence. Walk uphill onto the paved pathway. This will open onto a wide valley. You'll pass a large bridge structure. Follow that till road till you get to the supply shed structures. Look for a small concrete stairway in the trees. Stay left mostly, and look for pink ribbons. Pass the old fenced off pool looking area. Once you hit the rock/mud path (approx 10 mins) there's a hard right turn down into the main river area. A large tree has fallen so you'll need to spot the ribbons, and climb over this tree. If you pass this fallen tree by mistake, the trail will seem oddly difficult and dense. You'll need to turn around. Walk until you see the man made rock wall with a small waterfall, and walk across this to the other side. Follow the ribbons up the path and you'll need to cross the river 3-5 more times after this. Keep looking for clear open paths. There's two ways you can continue after that point so don't worry. (One way is just more difficult) Before the waterfall there's a larger section of rocks you'll have to climb over. Main takeaways: You will have to walk across slippery rocks several times. It is muddy. It's not that difficult but can be dangerous at some parts. If you don't see a pink/orange ribbon for more than 5-10 mins at any time, you are likely lost.

I had Morgan as my tour guide and he was very accommodating, knowledgeable, and super friendly! It's a very easy tour, Kailua Beach Adventures makes things as easy as possible. The entire experience was so much fun from start to finish--beautiful scenery, great pacing, and just the right mix of adventure and relaxation. Morgan was incredibly informative throughout the tour, sharing interesting facts about the area, local wildlife, and history in a way that kept everyone engaged. One of the highlights was kayaking out to Popoiʻa Island (Flat Island), which was absolutely beautiful. Morgan did an excellent job helping us navigate the waters both going out and coming back, making sure everyone felt comfortable and confident the entire time. Honestly, Morgan was the best guide we could have asked for--friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and just all-around awesome. We felt safe, well taken care of, and had such a great time. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you get Morgan as your guide!

I did my research and manage to find a way by foot. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to reach this destination. My kids and I were so excited to explore slice of paradise. It's an entirely man made island where there are activities like paddle board, group canoe, kayaking, volleyball, and lounging. The only downside with the water activities here is that is limited freedom on where one can go. Is say about 75 yards on each direction. Trust me on this, YOU WILL GET CALLED BACK. However it is for your safety. All of these come with a fee of course, but since work and I were there for a wedding, it was all paid for. There is no food provided, however you CAN BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINKS, provided there is no glass brought in. It's a great place for a little get away, from your little get away and I recommend to do this while on the island.

Bring plenty of water and snacks. It's all steep downhill or uphill once you take the falls section of the trail. The falls were not running much at the time of my hike , however the pools were cool and deep. The area is lush and beautiful with some tropical plants in bloom. There is a rope that is knotted to hold onto to help you walk down the rock face down to the first pool and rope swings into the next pool below it. The journey back up got your blood pumping. Parking on the street, be respectful on not talk loud in the neighborhood.

Its a straight path for about a mile then for the last mile and a half its a sharp descent to the bottom. This trail is the Manana trail but when you hit the one mile mark, it splits between the waterfall trail and the continuation of the Manana trail. Thankfully there was secure ropes to help you down and up. It wasnt bad going up because its mostly shaded. The waterfall swim was worth it, however, the waterfalls themselves werent as great. It was just a tiny stream. It also wasnt packed at around 2 pm, but when we left at around 3, the crowd started to fill quick. Overall, i recommend this hike but do be careful and follow the ropes.

The lady working that day said that the fish tend to bite more on warmer days when it's not raining -- she said that she thinks they hide out at the bottom when it rains. We ended up keeping 2 of our decent sized catches (still pretty small). However, I must say, the fish was fried to perfection!! We chose to have our fish fried whole, it was served with a scoop of rice, a refreshing broccoli-slaw salad and a cluster of plump, juicy grapes. A surprisingly tasty lunch to end our rainy fishing adventure. *Bonus tip: wear shoes/clothes you don't mind getting dirty. The red dirt can stain your shoes and does not wash off clothing very easily. We brought old shoes (trashed when we left) and changed out before we got in the car.

Located at a functioning farm, Ali'i has plenty of parking up front in the dirt lot. Check in at the main hutch/building and the staff will ring you up for fishing. You'll get a pole, bag of bait (not live), and a bucket. There are 3 pools dug out of the dirt but only one was lined and filled with water when we went. It was filled with lots of tilapia and they were fairly easy to catch. You can do catch and release or bring back what you've caught to the scale. Each fish can be cooked a variety of ways and comes served with rice, salad and fruit. The fish tasted great, freshly fried in our case, and the sides were actually really good. A great day out for fishing people but note for those that have never fished before, there is little instruction here and you're kinda left to yourself (which is a good thing if you know what you're doing).
