Never have I ever wanted to be that person to mutter the phrase "I have a lawyer" or "MY lawyer." It has always carried a negative connotation in my mind and I didn't fancy being associated with one. However, due to some unforeseen circumstances, my husband and I needed to seek professional legal help last fall and took the recommendation of a trusted friend. Now, I am HAPPY to exclaim "Iiii HAVE a lawyer!!" and I genuinely cannot say enough AMAZING things about Kevin Hughey and the Hughey Law Group. For starters, I was taken aback at how quickly Kevin responded to my initial voicemail, and that he spent a full hour on the phone just listening to what I'm sure sounded extremely minuscule and petty in the grand scheme of things. What's more is that at the end of my verbal novel and he informed me that he didn't take part in family law, he THEN spent the next thirty minutes referring me to a colleague that could! It should also be said that this entire conversation took place AFTER "business hours" which I was impressed by. Again, having never had experience with attorneys before, I assumed that I would only be contacted Monday thru Friday, nine to five, and even then only get MAYBE 15 minutes on the phone. This has absolutely not been the case with Kevin. I have had to come back to him several times now for tenant/landlord issues, and each time he is patient, kind, personable, yet extremely straightforward in a "shoot-from-the-hip" sort of way, which I personally appreciate. Consumer beware!!! Go elsewhere for your attorney. Hughey took on our case and was very upbeat and positive initially. He led us down several paths based on what he called his expertise even though clearly we had no support to justify his motions. He failed to keep us informed as to how much time was being spent. He failed to send out monthly billings and then sent out several months after the work had been done. He missed key dates with the court and passed the blame to us even though he was not keeping us updated. He would procrastinate until the day before due dates and then call the day before and expect us to drop everything to accommodate his tardiness. When it was time to depart ways, he just simply dropped everything. We have no idea where he ended the work. What a mess. I would never mention his name to anyone in a positive light. So many better qualified attorneys out there. Keep looking and pass by this one for sure. read more
