a burger and a sandwich on a styrofoam tray

I was highly disappointed in my order. I ordered a mega bacon cheeseburger with no pickles and some bacon cheddar tots. I immediately noticed that the burger was a lot smaller than expected. It was super dry and way too overcooked. There was no condiments on it at all even though it should have had mayo on it. The patties were shriveled up and the bacon was mostly burnt. The tater tots would have been ok if they hadn't cooked them on the same area of the grill that they burnt the bacon and overcooked the hamburger on. All of it had a strong burnt taste to it including the tots. I didnt even finish eating it. I stomached the tots and the bacon, but the rest of It went straight to the trash.

Good service, but definitely not the best Huddle House, food-wise.

I remember when this used to be the Sanitary Cafe and Harry ran the place. He had a small display case with some of his old military stuff in it from when he was in World War 2. I was happy to see the stainless steel wall cover still there behind the counter. I met a friend of mine for lunch on my way to Myrtle Beach. We've been friends since 3rd Grade ! I had the Country Ham Plate with Mac-n-Cheese , Mashed Potatoes and Gravy , Roll , and Sweet Tea. He had the Patty Melt with Fries. I love getting Country Ham when I come home to visit because we can't get it in Las Vegas. It was good , but I have to say the portion was a little smaller than I expected. The Mashed Potatoes and Gravy was good , but the Mac-n-Cheese I didn't really care for. Sweet Tea was on point. My friend liked his Patty Melt and fries. He knew our waitress and she was nice enough to take a picture of us. Bennettsville is still the small town community that I remember and grew up in. I would love to see it grow again like many places have even though all the jobs moved away years ago when the factories moved overseas. My father and I walked the streets of Bennettsville everyday after he got off work and we visited many of the shopkeepers after his first heart attack to give him some exercise. He grew up in Bennettsville and never moved as many of the people that he grew up with. Bennettsville was a tight knit community then and I know the ones that I grew up with still have this place in their heart even being thousands of miles away like me.

The energy was cool and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, which I always appreciate when I'm somewhere new. Now, let's talk about the food. I wanted to love it, but it just wasn't giving what it needed to give. I had the wings, fries, and a drink and all of it was just ... okay. Not terrible, but definitely not memorable either. You ever eat something and just know it could've hit harder? That was me. That said, I wouldn't write it off completely. If I had more time in town I'd definitely swing back through and give something else on the menu a shot. I did see that they do karaoke on the weekends and that might be the real selling point; fun, casual, and a chance to see the locals cut loose. I would've went during my last visit if I didn't have laryingitis. Haha Overall, it's a decent little spot with potential. Worth checking out if you're in the area but manage your expectations on the food and drinks.

Nevertheless, I would have never considered that the level of business would cause our food to come 2 HOURS (no exaggeration) after ordering. Thankfully my party was staying at the hotel and we had a lot to talk about. It seemed like the kitchen could only make two plates at a time, and there were long pauses between servers moving food. For my table, finally two burgers appeared. It took another 10 minutes for the third entrée to appear, with other tables' food going out in between. Not a good look. Both people who ordered burgers at my table ordered them medium and both came out well done. My colleague didn't finish his. I ate mine, but it was so dry that I had to drench it in ketchup to get it down. On the bonus side, I jokingly suggested to our server that we should get a free round of drinks for our wait, which she surprised us after our food delivery with that free round, which was super nice; thus the comments that service was great. Just the food and kitchen needed major help.

After having the crab cake sandwich we would recommend doing the platter because the bread overpowers the crab cake. Everything was incredible, the flavors, consistency, and quality. It is for sure comfort food but nothing sits heavy and feels super fresh. Not a fan of coleslaw but it was super yummy and great corn fritters for our first time having them. Service was great. Ambiance was super informal and adds to the vibe of what you're eating. Also unrelated but the cashier/server has a super calming energy/presence/voice which totally added to the vibe

Came with slaw, 1x Side (Collard Greens: sweet vinegar with some heat, and a bit of pork, really good!), and some AMAZING Hushpuppies (fresh, sweet corn bread). Shrimp & Grits: Fantastic! Buttery and cheesy grits with sausage and nice shrimp (not over-cooked or chewy). Green beans were slightly too soft (30-mins until closing), but good comfort food. Coleslaw was "meh," but a good, crunchy foil to the fish and rice. Counter Service (order at register, then they bring to table/to-go) was quite fast, given that they had to cook the fish and prep foods for take-out. Everything looked clean, staff was nice, and owner was talking to everyone. Didn't get to try the variety of desserts, but they looked and smelled great. Traveling, but worth the stop!
