I brought over my b18c1 (acura/honda motor) to have the mating surfaces checked for straightness as I had a blown head gasket. The guys were really friendly over the phone and asked that I just bring both the head and block, completely disassembled and they will check it over. About a week later, parts are cleaned and Wade explained that the block was basically twisted and needed a shaving. I was pleased with how everything looked and after reassembling the motor and driving it for a few months, the head gasket has held well with no water or oil leaks at all! I highly recommend for all your engine refining and assembly as they do that too. Great guys and couldn't be happier!! read more

They cleaned, bored, checked, and put in cam bearings on my 302 Ford roller cam block. Was done when said and was done well. He also put the pistons on the rods for me and checked all the rods to be in specification. read more

I was referred to Hubbard Machine by my friend Jerry at ABC Mustang. Needed my 460 rebuilt in my CVX-20 Jet boat. They helped me with setting up the engine so that, along with increasing the HP from 320 to 400+, we also improved the fuel efficiency so that my jet boat gets better mileage than DD ski boats. Wade and Jimmy are very knowledgeable and professional. They also don't overcharge- even though their knowledge and skill could set them at a high price point. Wade and the gang took great care of me. I got my chevy block bored, honed and decked. New cam bearings and freeze plugs too. It ended up needing a sleeve as well but that barely slowed them down. Parts were done when he said they would be and the work is beautiful. They get added bonus points for giving me an impromptu historical tour when I dropped off. If those walls could talk! Found out about this machine shop in 2016 and have been using their services ever since! First motor build was a LS/VTEC all motor setup. Had them bore out the B18B1 block .050" oversized and machine the ARP rod bolts to fit onto the stock rods. They also assembled the nippon racing (ITR spec) pistons onto the rods and hot tanked the block. Second motor build was a K20Z1 cylinder head which I had them resurface, install ferrea valvesprings, retainers, seals, and perform a valve job. Also had them resurface the head and hot tank. Third motor build was a B18C1 cylinder head which I had them resurface and hot tank. Very pleased with Jimmy and Wade and the services they offer. Great turnaround time and competitively priced. I have a 1986 Toyota Mr2 with the 4AGE engine. I knew the engine was in need of a refresh - the compression test verified this - 150psi, 150psi, 90psi and 150psi (cylinder 1 through 4). I put a small amount of oil into cylinder 3 and the compression remained at 90psi - tell tale sign that the head was the culprit. I removed the head and brought it to Jim at Al Hubbard. I asked him for a 'basic cleanup and refresh.' After pulling it apart, he recommended new valve stem and front cam seals. I purchased and supplied him the parts. This afternoon I re-installed the head with a factory Toyota OEM head gasket, new ARP head studs and this refreshed head. I re-ran the compression test. The results were as follows - 180psi, 180psi, 180psi and 180psi. I've had 5 engines (heads and blocks) rebuilt by various shops. None have ever come back in this great of condition! The price and time was absolutely worth every bit! I will be bringing all of my engine projects to them - and I have 3 more heads and 1 more block that need some work - they're all going to Al Hubbard! read more

My son and I are restoring a '69 Mustang Fastback. We visited Wade and Jimmy at Hubbard Machine in Hayward to drop off our small block Ford engine for machining and balancing. Hubbard's was recommended to us by a good friend, a vintage auto collector and racer who has been a Hubbard's customer since it was run by Wade's father in law (and has known Wade since he was 7 years old). This shop is SERIOUSLY OLD SCHOOL: Wade and Jimmy are very knowledgeable, take great pride in their work, and charge reasonable prices for their excellent service. I wish there were more businesses that managed to these principles. Many of our fellow gear-heads recommended just buying a crate engine and dropping it in, but we decided we'll get better results by machining the block and heads we've got and replacing some of the components with new, precision parts, matching a new carburetor to the right camshaft and re-assembling the engine ourselves. All in (and including the balancing), we paid less than ONE THIRD of what a low-end crate motor would run us. And it only took Hubbard's a couple of weeks to finish the job.
