This is my favorite local park. It's so well maintained. Pretty much only for Smithtown residents. It has an awesome playground with new and old school stuff. Splash park for the little ones. There are nice trails to follow around a pond and through an orchard. They have animals to look at and interact with. A museum with lots of cool critters. This review is for the splash pad only. The minute we stepped into the splash pad area we noticed that the park employee was continuously telling parents and kids: " don't sit here, don't do that, don't go there". The splash pad itself designed for very young children. My child wanted to leave after 5 minutes being there while I was annoyed by excessive rules. read more

Had not been here since I was probably 11, and not much has changed. And that's great. Lots of space for kids to run around, and if you bring some carrots, you can feed the goats. I don't like carrots so this was a win-win for me. Also spend a good deal of time trying to find gnomes in the gnome garden with my nephew. Lots of hidden hikes. The new playground is well designed with good, challenging, but safe climbing activities. Neat little zip line too. The biggest issue I had with Hoyt Farm is they renovated this playground in the summer, which also closed the splash pad. Who planned this? Who closes a park and splash pad in the summer when kids are off from school? And there wasn't a single notice on any website , Town or park, telling you about this and explaining why they had to do it in the summer. Just typical poor planning read more

I've always liked coming here with the kids. The park is nice and clean with a water park in the summer. There are animals of course. The trail is well maintained and a good walk. We always stopped by the swamp area to see the turtles on logs. If your not a resident then go after Labor Day when no one is at the gate to make you turn around. Enjoy. read more

Super cute park and playground. Yes, as other reviewers have stated, it's for Smithtown residents only. Which, yes, is weird because I grew up in Commack and don't remember having an issue back in the day here. We're TOB, but managed to get here when no one was in the booth. In the off season, there usually isn't anyone at the front but in times past I've had to park pretty far to walk in here (side streets have no parking signs). Once you get past that hurdle, you're good as gold. Plenty of covered picnic tables to eat and enjoy your food, a small splash pad area in the summer months, and two large playgrounds for the kiddos to enjoy. Playground equipment great for my almost 3 year old. On the other side of the parking lot at the top of the hill is a path that you can take to see the animals. It was unseasonably warm today so after an hour and a half running around and going down the slides, we were too spent to go visit them this time around. But, last time we did the walk and my son loved it. Next time, for sure! One thing I notice about this park is that there are SO MANY BEES. More than other playgrounds we frequent. They are always buzzing about. I also wish they had a water fountain to refill our bottle. And the ice cream man is always chilling on the bottom of the hill at the playground so be forewarned. On the way out, there was someone in the booth so I guess I came at a good time. I am not sure when they stop checking but would be great if we can turn Hoyt Farm into a state park and you can show the Empire Pass as it really is a great place. read more

I love Hoyt farm, It's huge, has a little Something for everyone-farm animals, butterfly garden, hiking trails, little bits of history with replicas of wigwams, set ups of old country living and battle field cannon relics. Along with a park and splash pad. THE ONLY REASON ITS MISSING A STAR- you can not get anyone on the phone when you call. I called one time with a question, got a busy signal or the answering machine 10/10 times I tried that afternoon. I ended up not going because I wasn't sure if I could bring my sister who isn't a Smithtown resident with me if she was in another car(we have 4 kids between us and can't all fit in the same car with the car seats) read more

Opened this weekend among all the Corona virus stuff. It was a delight! It was nearly empty. My son loved all the animals and we walked the nature trail. It was peaceful and lovely. You need to wear a mask...(one family was not!) And you can't really touch anything. We saw kids on the playground but didn't attempt it. Can't wait to go back!!! What a gem in our town! read more

If you're looking for a beautiful park with animals and grounds to take your small kids with tons of parking because it's empty in October this is the place. There's about 200 spots to park and even if there if no one there, they wait for you to leave your car and you will get a ticket for not being a town resident. read more

Given that Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve is exclusively for Smithtown residents (& Empire pass folks) in months that don't have an 'r' in them (well, from MDW-LDW), I'd never stepped foot inside 'til recently. I virtually jogged over from work on a brisk autumn day to find the place jampacked with families galore. Kiddies occupied the playground, spilling out from the SUVs that'd taken over the parking lot at the entrance. There's a bandstand of sorts and a nice bit of open land, buttressed by some gentle hills and barn-like structures. This review is more about 1 employee than about the park itself but unfortunately I think it needs to be out there. I was at meat farms in Commack Road on June 3rd at around 4pm. One of the Hoyt employees who I recognize from around the way decided to actually curse out a customer because the customer asked for social distancing. This guy was wearing one of the Hoyt shirts when he made this comment. I tried to stick up for the customer and this degenerate decided he wanted to fight me and challenge me to a fight in the parking lot after I left meat farms. Needless to say I told the guy I would call the police if he did not back away. I would love to know his name so he can be held accountable for his ignorant behavior. If this is a town employee then something should be done read more

Great park to bring the kids. Fun for everyone!!! There's a couple playgrounds, a large field, smallish hill for sledding, animals, spray Park, grills/picnic area, nature trails & best of all a little gnome village. During the summer they have concerts and movie night. We love going there. Only problem is you have to be a Smithtown resident to park in the lot during peak season, otherwise you can park in the surrounding neighborhood and walk in. read more

I absolutely love this park! My son and I were walked around feed a cow, goats, sheeps, bunnies, and turtles. There are also silk chickens and pigs. The nature trail is a must even my two year old did it and that's where you can see/feed the turtles. There's also a playground on the other end of the park, not one of my favorites but lots to do here for sure!!! read more

Best Playground growing up, and STILL the best!! I wish I wasn't too old for the playground though and Water Park! Also, Best Nature Preserve and trials ever!!! I love it 'cause of events happening as well sometimes. My favorite playground ecriptment was the rolling slide, spilling ride, and of course the UFO like climbing thing where I always loved to jump down off of it! I never got hurt on any playground ecriptment! I wish they had the playground ecriptment I grew up with in 2020 'cause it's funnier. Unfortunately though in like 2008 they put new and safer playground equipment in which isn't as much fun to be honest, but it's for the best! The staff their are super nice and very hardworking! This is actually a great place to work if you love animals and people! They also have free concerts in the summer like for kids as well as for other people! read more

Beautiful park, nice trails, wonderfully decorated around Halloween, feeding the animals is fun (we always stop to buy 10lbs of carrots before heading over), the sprinkler park is awesome and the playgrounds are pretty decent (sometimes have to dodge a few hornets and bees around the sand one). Staff is a little rude, the ice cream truck has his own parking spot in front of the playground and he comes around quite often - but hes ridiculously overpriced and is very stingy with napkins, parking is for residents only (except for in winter) so youll have to park a few blocks away and walk in (I also found it kind of weird that some residents will walk out of their homes and ask "can I help you?" when you park on some of the nearby streets). read more

I have been coming to this park since I was a child, where you can walk the trails that pass by all different kinds of animals. There is a great bid picnic area where we would have family and school picnics. As long as I can remember every year during the summer they would host the summer concert series on Sunday nights. It is a great place to go with your friends, family and neighbors of all ages. I love that I am still living in Commack near Hoyt Farm and can not share this experience with my wife and kids. They also have an absolutely amazing Group of staff member who have been Hera as long as I can remember. They care for the animals, clean he grounds and cultivate a real sense of being on a farm upstate. Recommend checking this place out any day any time!! read more

this place is great. you have a choice of things to do there. They have 2 playgrounds, one in sand and the other on that rubber surface. they also have sprinklers on in the playground with the rubber ground. they have a covered area to have a picnic lunch or you could eat in the large field. they have public restrooms, which are not the cleanest, but they would do. I don't remember seeing a changing table in them though. then up the hill they have a farm area. They have chickens, goats, a cow, and a pig. They ask that you don't feed them bread though. You can feed them carrots or vegetables from home. Up in that area you can also pick up the green belt trails. They also have an area where you bring the kids and it has a tepee they can play in. In the summer they even do concerts on the big lawn. The best one IMO to see is Big Shot the Billy Joel tribute band, they are excellent. People come very early for this one and parking is very limited. I believe they have other concerts there too. To enter the park you have to be a town of smithtown resident and have a valid sticker on your car. If you are not a town of smithtown resident, you can pay a fee to enter for the day. Parking is very limited. They have recently made the playground more handicap available, as well as offering handicapped parking spots very close to the playground. read more
