We went to The Rising Sun for dinner whilst staying in the Clare Valley. We didn't even think to…read morebook, being a country pub. However given the long weekend, we really should have! Managed to get a table in the dining room, and decided to order a few of the starters and a bottle of local wine. Rather than go for the standard pub gear which was also on offer, we opted for oysters kilpatrick, marinaded pork belly skewers, arancini balls and grilled mushrooms with sliched brioche. All the food was good, and while nothing was particularly outstanding, there was definitely nothing bad either. Staff were enthusiastic, helpful and made great recommendations. Was definitely worth the visit.

This one seems to be one of the more popular ones, though it wasn't too crowded so as to put me off. However, as a pub it certainly wasn't too bad, and they also have a rather nice beer garden, though I sort of suspect that it really isn't used considering that people in country pubs tend to go out the front to smoke as opposed to going into the beer garden. Considering that it's mainly my partner who is the wine buff, she managed to entice me to try a couple of wines and on the first shot picked my favourite of our whole trip. The little cellar door that could be so much more…read more It's really awkwardly set up in what we guess is an old she's at the top of the property with a few tables that too large for the space and make for a lot of clutter when people come in. The mad bastard running the show is busy flicking between you all, so there's not much chance to learn, I got the vibe he wants you to come have one or two and buy or leave. The wine is a nice drop, and they vary immensely in flavor - reading the descriptions on the back page is a must! The vibe outside is fun. Watch for the signs as you come in.
