The Wall Art Gallery is not the exception and I enjoy their art collection. While pricing is kind of prohibitive, it costs nothing to enjoy the fine art they have. His pieces are displayed in Valencia, Spain; Place Vendome, Paris; Berkeley Square, London; Taipei, Taiwan and Dubai and now in Miami Beach. Valdés is an internationally known artist and his work is supposed to represent multicultralism in the city. This sculpture features a head surrounded by butterflies. Valdés inspiration came from a chance encounter with butterflies in New York. "One day, while strolling in Central Park, I saw a group of butterflies that had landed on top of a sculpture and the idea of the headpiece was born." There is a larger version of this sculpture in Sunny Isles called Mariposas. I love the whimsical nature of this piece. I am also a fan of Valdés Infanta Margarita statues. Butterflies is dressed up extra special this week in celebration of the floral art exhibition Fleurs De Villes Voyage, on display at the nearby Bal Harbour Shops. Large butterflies covered in pink and white flowers from Blake Roses Floral Designs have been added to Valdés sculpture. You can see the added display of flowers until March 12th.

If you make it on Second Saturday, well, all galleries are open late, and many galleries offer free drinks. Many galleries also have cash bars, if you really want to hang. If you like walking around, this could be a problem. The streets are packed with art lovers. If you like to sit down, this could also be a problem. It's overcrowded, and finding a seat may be a hard commodity to find, but don't lose hope. If you come to Second Saturday, you'll have fun.

How could I have not reviewed this before?…read more I was one of the brave souls exploring Wynwood back at the beginning in '02 / '03 when Second Saturdays had a more underground feel to it and was just three or four gallery spaces. (I remember this area when I went to high school nearby and it was just the hood, but I'll leave it at that...don't want any more gray hairs to pop up!) Anyways, Wynwood / Design District has grown up and diversified now and known by the mainstream. Nowadays you're likely to see a DJ performance in front of a local (non green mermaid) coffee shop with live breakdancing, live street painting, performance art such as planking in one of the public spaces, and bands in the other . You're also likely to run into a bunch of majorly cool people around the different galleries too. Don't forget the bunch of new restaurants, plus the food trucks either! Sure, parking can be an adventure and / or overpriced ($10 for an unimproved lot where my "Eleanor" gets dirty?? ) But what would a hot night in the city be without a little adventure!

House of Whitley is one of the most amazing of all shops or auction houses I've ever come across…read more No wonder it is so well situated as being a part of the Gallery of Amazing Things as what they have is not just of amazement, it's both of eye and mind dazzling amazement. From what I saw of what they had, I hardly know where to begin but let me start with "Green River Fossils." Unearthed in the Green River Formation of Wyoming these fossils are of the Eocene Epoch, hence as they say have spent over 50 million years in the making. To me the fish and fauna fossils are just breathtaking not only by visual reference but from mental comprehension of what being over 50 million year old actually means. Then there are what they term the "Big Eye Binoculars," and what a sight of beauty and amazement they are. Like if you've never seen or looked through a Zeiss lens 15x80 or the like, you have no idea how phenomenally good optics can be. Priced in the thousands, they might be a little much for most wallets but just seeing is more than worth your time. Plus there is so much more. Everything from an over 6 foot high decorative passenger jet turbine to fine art paintings and the Christopher Marley collection of varying moths, butterflies, fish, minerals, gems and other matters of nature. The House of Whitley is a true gem and one that you should let pass you by, especially if you are like me, a collector of the unique.
