As a former New Mexico resident I'm perpetually disappointed in the Mexican offerings here in Germany. Based on the reviews, the line out the door, and the ambiance of the restaurant, I was certain I found a diamond in the rough. I was wrong. While it's confusing, it is even more baffling to have all the right pieces and still be bland and nothing like Mexican food. Tortilla, meat, beans, cheese, and rice do not a burrito make. Imagine I asked you what is in a cookie, and you told me, "flour, sugar, butter, chocolate chips." Then, I hand you a literal pile of flour, sugar, butter, and chocolate chips. That's what a burrito is like here. All the right ingredients and intention without the desired results. While this place is walking distance from my apt I think I'll stick to making my own burritos at home.

Best Bar in Germany!…read more Let me start by saying that Böblingen (my home town) probably has one of the worst night-life in the entire country, so if you happen to be in BB for whatever reason, you want to stick to the few places that are actually worth going. On top of this very short list, there is the "Tacuba". To this day (having lived in Hamburg and New York) I think this is my favourite bar. It starts with the exterior and interior. This entire bar appears like a giant piece of artwork of a Mexican pawn shop operator. It does not look very friendly from the outside (which they would actually state and explain on their front entrance). Literally every inch of the walls and pillars inside and outside the bar is covered with some sort of old-fashioned statue, picture, postcard, candleholder, you name it. Everytime I enter the Tacuba, I discover something new and more interesting. Unlike many "unique" bars who will just hang a lot of licence plates and soccer fan art, the Tacuba offers pretty much anything you could think of. My highlight is the men's bathroom where they actually put a puppet-graveyard behind the urinals. You walk around and just think "you've got to be kidding me!" People within the Tacuba are (for German standards that is) very open-minded, talkative and friendly. As they claim on their entrance "you enter as a stranger but you leave as a friend". Unlike many other bars in the city, the Tacuba actually enforces their minimum age of 18 years, which really gives the Tacuba the personal standard that makes it so enjoyable. Even though you will find all kinds of people in the bar, most of them are well-educated and easy-going. The menu (creatively designed, of course) offers you any kind of alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink you could possibly think of - a friend of mine even got milk and honey without further questions. On hot summer days, you could sit in the large patio on the backside of the house. Everytime, I return to BB, this place is a MUST go. I recommend it to absolutely everyone in the area who is ready for a little adventure.
