Caesar called me with the following diagnosis: "Good morning. I was able to program the remote control, and it's working fine, but that's not the problem. The pilot light ignites, but it has two sensors. The first one ignites and keeps the pilot light lit. The second sensor, when it heats up, sends a signal to the valve to open the burner. The valve is sending a good signal, but the servo motor is burned out. So the problem is the electronic gas valve that controls everything. I can do this job for $800. This includes replacing the valve with a new one, installing it, and reprogramming it, since everything is electronic." From the moment he delivered this diagnosis, he was incessant about doing the repair immediately and pushed hard for me to authorize the $800 job on the spot. I told him clearly that I would be getting a second opinion and likely going through my home warranty. That's where things took a very concerning turn. After he left, my tenant called to tell me that the remote control for the fireplace was suddenly missing. Caesar had taken it with him without any permission. I had to call him and demand that he return it to the property. Then, things got even worse. My tenant called again to say he noticed that some fireplace connections appeared to be left intentionally disconnected after Caesar's visit--presumably to make it seem like major repairs were needed. My tenant simply reconnected the wiring, and the fireplace worked perfectly with the remote right away. No $800 repair, no burned-out valve, no issue with sensors or motors--just unplugged wires. This experience was not only unprofessional, but also deeply untrustworthy. Manipulating a system to justify unnecessary repair costs and removing a remote without permission is completely unacceptable. I strongly advise anyone considering Poppins Cleaners Fireplace & Chimney Repair to beware. Based on my experience, their practices are pushy, dishonest, and potentially deceptive. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for a reputable and ethical company.

I was a little disappointed that he did not check the attic to ensure no insulation was close to vent pipe or the roof since I shared that there might be a bird's nest there. Around 6 months after we moved in, we noticed small cracks starting to form in front, at which point we alerted our builder, who proceeded to do nothing about it. Given all of the other issues we were having at the time (small kids + work), and the builder going bankrupt, we ignored it until we no longer could. It became apparent that the structure was slowly coming off the wall as it was not properly secured to it during installation. We also measured the columns holding the mantle and found these were different sizes (off by 0.25 inch), hence the leaning effect we noticed. Not knowing who the company was, we started researching places, accepting our fate that we would have to swallow the cost to replace. We found Cast Fireplaces Inc. after a google search and toured the showroom. We even shared our story with one of the associates who appeared to be "moved" and even offered us "discounted designer" pricing (this isn't really the case - it's their standard pricing). We opted to move forward with the replacement after selecting the design. We then noticed we were uncomfortably being asked to pay the full price urgently (apparently their installers were busy, and this needed to be paid in full ahead of the install so they could get us on the schedule / the next day). The first question that came to mind was, how could it be this quick if it were truly custom. The next day (right after payment) the installer showed up, with the fireplace in 10+ pieces. For context, there should max be 5 or 6 depending on the complexity of the design. Having the gut feeling something was wrong, my husband immediately stopped the installer from tearing down the old structure. He was (fortunately) able to get a response from our bankrupt builder that this company was the same company who installed the original. The associate (who was generally nice) apologized for the mishap. We asked how she missed the fact that this product was theirs when she came out to measure. She'd openly acknowledged that whoever had originally installed structure had not appropriately attached it to the wall, hence why it was falling off, and that the columns holding the mantle up were not the same size. She offered to have the structure repaired for $1000 as it was "now out of warranty" (which is only 1 year), and they would not honor the fact that we have evidence of the problem from before the 1-year mark. Apparently, they do not stand by their work. Needless to say, we could not move forward in good conscience knowing all of this. Would recommend avoiding this place unless you, too, would like for your surround to potentially come off the walls one day - see photos attached. Needless to say, we're trying to get this replaced before it falls on one of us.
