My mum ordered a fireplace from Housing Units in November, and it quickly became clear that it was faulty. When she contacted Housing Units, they refused to take responsibility and told her she had to deal with the manufacturer herself - completely unacceptable since she purchased a fireplace from Housing Units and was paying them for a service. An online engineer for Evonics, gave her the ridiculous instruction of switching the rocker switch on and off 15 times, we thought he was joking. Obviously this didn't work so she had to wait some more. After two months of waiting, an engineer finally came out, only to confirm what we already know, the fireplace was faulty. She was instructed to go and start to order a replacement, which she did, only to be told it would take 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. However, I have speaking housing units today, she discovered that the replacement hadn't even been ordered! Now, she's been told it will take another five weeks, meaning she won't receive a fireplace until May - six months after purchasing it! They have told her she needs to dismantle the fireplace herself. To make matters worse, She does not have central heating, so housing units have left a pensioner without heating throughout the entire winter. My mum has been a loyal customer, and this treatment is disgraceful. I am absolutely shocked at the lack of care and responsibility shown by housing Units. The customer service team have not shown any care or understanding. Having to wait 6 months for a very expensive fireplace to be replaced is shocking. It so sad because she is such a loyal customer. From previous experience IKEA provide a much better service and do not expect their loyal customers to do their work for them. read more

Today I got scammed £750 from a company that I thought was trustworthy and reliable. 12 weeks ago I ordered the dining table pictured. I thought it was a steal of a deal because it was half price at £750 and it was using real oak. After 3 months of patiently waiting for my dining table, they delivered my package in one huge box, they never told me it was going to come in two boxes, this was never communicated by email and the delivery driver didn't say anything either. The delivery driver said to sign a form to confirm delivery and left in a hurry. They never explained that there were meant to be in two boxes. I thought it was going to be in one. Later that evening I opened the box and discovered the legs were missing, I thought "not to worry, I'm sure if I email them they'll send me my dining table legs ASAP". To my surprise and utter dismay, the customer service team emailed me back (picture of the email attached) saying because I signed the form, they cannot send me over the legs or give me a refund. I rang them after pleading to send the legs or provide a refund and they refused. I had two witnesses with me that can state only one box was delivered and not two. Also Housing units can't even send me pictures of proof saying that the two boxes were delivered. They're simply taking the word of mouth over the driver's over mine and refuse to send me my legs or give me a refund. I am completely and utterly heartbroken that I've lost £750, all I have is a plank of wood to show for it. I can say hand on heart this is the most despicable company that I've ever come across. Great place to come if you like different things. There is only one housing units and im lucky enough to have it down the road from me. They have two building one that houses. Beds, garden furniture, bathrooms and accessories, candles, pictures and mirrors. The other has fire places, sofas, dining furniture, kitchen accessories, bedding, lighting and jewellery. Both have a restaurant which sells breakfast, lunch, cakes. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They even has a greeter to open the door for you as you enter and exit. Very recommended if your in the area. read more

Appalling customer care on faulty returns. I bought a marble lamp table from Housing Units and was underwhelmed to collect it as a 2 part flat-pack, something i wasn't informed about at the time of purchase and comparable to something you'd buy from IKEA. Once unpacked there was damage to the frame and pieces missing from the pack. I called Housing Units to resolve my issue and the best they could offer was to collect the item for an exchange, but the nearest available time to collect was two weeks from the date of complaint. Unacceptable in my opinion. I travelled 30 miles out of my way the following day to return the item for an exchange, where the Customer Care Team didn't even have the decency to come out and speak to me. Instead they relayed a sorry, this is unacceptable message through the Warehouse Manager, who informed me the Customer Care Team would call me the following day. No call the following day - so i called them. Louise from the Customer Care Team was rude and flippant as if to say you've had your exchange what do you want us to do? Well an apology would have been a start and might have gone some way to avoiding this negative review. Louise also didn't seem to grasp the Customer Care part of her role and was unhelpful when asking what the complaints procedure was at Housing Units. So all-in-all flat pack product sold at 10 times the price of IKEA with crap Customer Care. read more

Buying a Fire? Well be very aware..... Housing Units has a great reputation, however although they sell fires by the bucket load they don't employ any fitters or installers, instead they opt to use "Approved Fitters" Reassured that they operate under the Housing Units good name. We had their approved fitters in our home...... Day 1 - 150mm Supporting concrete lintel "ground out" with angle grinder without our permission - Dust all over the house Day 2 - Fire is bodged fitted with no replacement lintel. Front marble missing, fire box not straight and whole chimney breast left unsupported!! Weeks 1,2 & 3 - Loads of phone calls, emails etc...left to me to do all the chasing!! Week 3 - Finally get fire fitted with new lintel support - all at extra cost!!! All this with very little communications from HU..their get out clause..fitters don't work for us!! 11 months on.... Fire cheek has collapsed in fire. Day 1 - Fitter comes out to repair and says fire manufacturers fault. Advised that HU will contact manufacturers and advise. Week 1 - No communication for HU..chase again and not even contacted the manufactures. Using the "Fitters don't work for us" clause.. Wow. read more

Housing units very big store sells everything you need for your house apart from conservatory.staff are very helpful friendly nothing is too much trouble spend time with you with questions that you need answering on their products. Has a cafe which I think is a little bit expensive but it is good quality. read more

Housing Units has been in business for 60 years and the services and products reflect this, this is home shoppers paradise!! It sell everything to make your home look fantastic and i would say for the quality is fair in price, i wont decieve you it not cheap, but boy the quality is amazing. They sell bathrooms, fireplaces, all types of furniture, and beautiful ornaments i can promise you this is a place to make a house look like a home, a truely amazing Home. And if all that shopping makes you hungry, just wait till you get into the cafe.... WOW!!! Now the food is quite expensive but it is again like the stock in the store ..... fantastic. DO NOT order anything online from Housing Units. After having been promised next day delivery, I did not receive anything for a week. I called customer services to be told rudely that my order had not been processed and that in fact my product was not in stock. They had not planned to let me know this but had still charged me for the product. Do not be fooled by the low prices on price comparison websites for their products. read more

Friday 5.30pm - open but no one around - perfect shopping time. Saturday 2pm - open but nowhere to park! Glad we knew what we wanted when we returned to purchase on Saturday. For some unknown reason, Housing Units was my last resort for a new bed. Even though I went almost every week with my mum when I was younger and its only one mile from where I live, I just didn't think about coming here. I'm going to focus on beds in this review because I didn't really look at anything else this visit. I wouldn't say the selection is huge, but I did find one I fell in love with at a decent price. I had previously looked in many other stores finding ones I liked but would have to sell my home to buy it first! I'm often put off by staff hovering and watching what we're up to when we're shopping but this time the staff were only around when we needed them. Andrew simply came up and offered his help of which I was grateful. He didn't roll off all the information I had read off the information card sat on the bed and start blabbering on while I was thinking and admiring the beautiful wooden kingsize sleigh bed that would soon be in my loft room :) I asked about delivery and he was very helpful in telling me about an access check, where a member of staff would come to my house to make sure all would be well when delivering the bed before I ordered it. He gave me an information sheet with his name on and wandered off to let me think. The next day (Saturday) I decided I would go and buy it, taking advantage of the access check. It couldn't have been simpler to purchase this item. This time it was a lady who served us who liked to talk a little more telling us about her holidays, but I would rather have that than rude staff who look at you like you don't deserve to be in their store. Anyway, they were very helpful in explaining that if the access check is disappointing I would get a straight refund or could choose another item. Now, just to wait for the (good) news...... Until then, I would recommend a visit to Housing Units for good quality beds (and designer ones if that takes your fancy) and also some unusual home items and gifts. Over and out x read more

We go there for everything from Living room suites, dining room furniture, bathrooms & fittings, flooring, fires & fire places, kitchen ware, towels & linen to ornaments, designer handbags, occasional furniture and garden & conservatory furniture. The quality of the products they sell is second to none and you may even spot the odd famous face in there as it's reputation for quality is wide spread. If you're sick of flat pack ikea furniture and want something a bit more solid and unique this is the place to go! The staff are also amazingly helpful and they even have a doorman to welcome you and they have a stock of store golfing umbrellas to borrow if it's raining when you have to walk from one building to the other. read more

Bought a gas fire in November last year asked for coals not pebbles. They sent pebbles an delivery man assured me they were coals. Waited 3 weeks for reply to letter of complaint to be told it had been passed on to the relevant dept !!! it is now March and i'm still waiting for my coals. The customer service in this store is abysmal. All they want is your money. And the fire was £109 cheaper on line. Will never set foot in this store again. read more

Purchased over £3000 in 6 months new carpets etc. got Panasonic vacuum 6 months ago .used twice as only as a spare. Gave an almighty bang Phoned Panasonic and Joanne in H.u. Both said bring it straight back difficult as disabled and long way for me. Told by sour faced manager NOTHING to do with them Panasonic only deal. I explained as I bought from them surely they should refund or credit note. Was told not a H.U product nothing to do with them !,,,,,,,,,,! Terrible aftersales service. Writing on behalf of my 70 year old mother who bought a fireplace and surround for over £2000. The marble surround had two chips on the top. The delivery men were in and out in a flash and my mum signed for delivery. When she opened the packaging she saw the chips. The attitude of the aftersales was 'you signed for it so your entitled to nothing'. The chips are covered now the top is on but beware, check everything very carefully!! If like me its a delivery to an elderly person, make sure you are there to check it. read more

Visited the Wickentree restaurant today and was amazed to find such a lovely upmarket restaurant within the store. Menu was limited but had excellent choice, and the fish and chips I chose was absoluely delicious, albeit quite a small portion. It was beautifully served, by polite and friendly staff, and cooked to perfection the best fish and chips I've had for a long time. The ambience of the restaurant was chilled, easy and refined. I loved the restaurant, and will certainly be visiting again. The missing fifth star is because the portion was rather small, given the price. Other than that, would recommend it. read more

viisit the café regulary but the service is very poor only one member of staff taking orders making the coffee+ tea and cashing up in the till as well, whilst there are lots of staff in the kitchen washing up when people are waiting to be served, I did ask wether there was anymore staff only to be told they are in the back, to which I replyed should they not be serving, but did not get a response, my idea would be if people are there to give you money its manners to get the right amount of staff, very disappointed Awaiting your reply. read more

Rang for 20 minutes this morning before phone was answered, finally got to speak to a person, progress! Actually no, she put me through to the department and I got an answerphone. Rang back again and spoke to the first person, she advised only option was to leave a message on answerphone and wait for a call back. Unique Shop selling unique items, can be expensive

I bought a three piece suite which was delivered on 20th November. Noticed the scatter cushions were missing and phoned Customer Service to advise them. Got a call back to say that they had been on to the manufacturers and they will be fast tracked and delivered to me in 10-14 days. Housing Units phoned me to check if the cushions had been delivered and when they found they hadn't arrived they contacted the manufacturers who told them they cannot fast track the order because they are too busy due to the time of year and I would have to wait until mid January! I told Customer Service that I wasn't happy at having to wait until mid January and she said there was nothing else she could do. I queried why the staff in Goods Inwards had not noticed that the cushions were missing and was told that they only unpack and check the goods the day before they are delivered. If this is the case, what would have happened if the suit had been damaged - presumably I would have been left sitting on the floor having disposed of my old suite. Nevertheless, Goods Inwards had still missed the fact that the cushions we not with the suite. I couldn't get Housing Units to accept this. Their answer was "its a busy warehouse". After much complaining she agreed to try again and said she would phone me back. Three days later - no phone call. I have just phoned to ask to speak to a member of senior management and was told by the Telephonist that the lady was off today. I asked to speak to another manager and was told there was no one else in. When I queried the validity of that, she hung up on me. I redialled and got put through to a Supevisor in Customer Service and outlined my complaint saying I wasn't happy with the lack of Customer service I had received. The supervisor objected to me saying that and said the lady that was dealing with my complaint was trying to resolve it and was very competent at her job. That being the case, why was I, the customer, not granted the courtesy of being kept informed? The outcome is that they can't tell me when I am getting my cushions. I am now concerned that if they are not made until mid January there is a chance of a colour shade mismatch. This is the third suite I have purchased from this company along with various other items of furniture, lights and other goods amounting to several thousands of pounds. I told the Customer Service Supervisor in Housing Units that I will never be back in their store ever again. Her answers was, "we hope to restore your faith in us and that you will return". I felt I had to write a review about my recent purchase from Housing Units. I have been buying from them for over thirty years, yet on this occasion, I am very disappointed with the after sales service. I purchased a bathroom cabinet on New Years Eve for delivery a couple of days later. However when we put the item together, we noticed that we were unable to attach the door lock on it as no holes had been drilled into the item, so we were left with a door that just swings open. When I rang up and explained my problem, I felt as if they did not believe me, and the girl said she was busy at that time, but take a look at the one in store and ring me back, I even emailed them, but a couple of weeks later, still no phone call or reply to my email. I am very disappointed, would have expected a better service from Housing Units. I was going to purchase another one as the cabinet was nice, but in view of their lack of interest, I have purchased an identical one cheaper from another supplier. read more
