Rabers has long been my favorite butcher shop in Peoria. Since they've opened their new location…read morethey've added on additional services like a full lunch counter and an event space. I go there as often as my waistline allows for lunch, and the food is excellent. As you can imagine, the meat is top notch. The prices are also so low you'll think you've gone back in time (I think I paid $4.50 for a big double cheeseburger the last time I was there). Raber's also hosted and catered our rehearsal dinner. They did a wonderful job. The lighting they have in the space is really good for setting a party mood, there is a full bar, and the food was fantastic (we had tenderloin steaks and chicken). We got so many compliments from our guests. One super nice touch was they wrote a nice message/sign for my wife and I on the chalkboard wall, and then a bunch of our guests added to it with more messages wishing us well, making jokes, etc. It was great. I'll be back for lunch as often as possible, and if I ever need to host a big party again, Raber's will definitely be the first place I talk to.

They also have great seasonings, cheeses, etc available. I've had everything from their deli meats to prime rib, as well as having whole hogs processed -- and I've never had a bad experience with them.

Took my deer to Solo because it was the only place open on Sunday. Worst decision I ever made…read more Asked for tenderloin and backstraps whole and the rest to be made into roasts since I make my own sausage and jerky. When asked what to do with the rest I told them to grind it. What they gave me was 2 tenderloins and 2 backstraps whole, 2 roasts and about 40 lbs of ground meat. Any experienced butcher will get up to 8 roasts out of a deer and they gave me 2 small roasts. What a huge dissappointment. Never again Solo.

Disappointed does not even begin to describe how poor this exchange was with Jones. I had always…read moreheard good things about them and try to shop local and they have permanently lost a customer if this is how conduct their business. We ordered a half cow from the farmer who took the cow to Jones and then everything just went downhill. Jones did not pack part of the meat correctly/some of our meat was wrapped in plastic but not sealed. All the steaks and roasts were cut wrong, we got beef shanks instead of bones, some of the ground beef packs had holes in them and NONE of the ground beef had any labels whatsoever. We ordered 2lbs pack of ground beef and recived one pound packs. We were missing multiple cuts of meat that we specifically requested and only got 188 lbs of meat from a 393.5 lb hang weight. Obviously we weren't expecting to get the hang weight in meat, but to barely get 45% on top of all the other problems and paying a rather expensive processing fee, not at all what we were expecting. We called Jones multiple times and then had communication issues. They they didn't call us back when they said they would so we had to call them again. At first they said it was a new butcher then they back tracked and said one of the two bags of ground beef was 2lb packs instead of 1lb packs when both bags were just 1lb packs (when we ordered 2lbs packs to begin with). Our ticket even had 86 #1 next to hamburger, so that was just a lie to try and cover the mistakes they are refusing to correct or acknowledge. If you've made it this far, thank you. I hope you take your business elsewhere and have a better experience then my family did.
