We got there at about 6:10 and had filled out the online check in because we wanted to make sure he got seen quickly so he could get an x-ray. However, we got there and it still took 10+ minutes for the check in even though we filled out all the same information online. They then told us that they would do their best to get him seen quickly but that their x-ray machine turns off at 6:30 and they can't control it. We later realized this was misinformation. They did do a good job getting his vitals and background info done quickly. They then did the x-ray and he had 4 broken ribs. They sent Tramadol for pain and we had to drive an hour away to Longmont to pick it up because it was the only pharmacy that was open. We got there and then were told that the urgent care input his birth date incorrectly, and because Tramadol was a controlled substance, they could not fill the prescription. He ended up having to go overnight with no pain medication with 4 broken ribs because the urgent care was already closed and nothing could be done.

On September 23rd, 2025, I went to the BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department for severe…read moreheadaches, dizziness, fatigue, and frequent episodes of double vision. One episode lasted long enough that I had to pull over while driving. The ER performed bloodwork and an MRI, both of which were normal, and sent me home with a generic "how to treat headaches" handout. The handout even specifically stated to seek medical attention if the headaches were accompanied by dizziness or vision changes, which were my main presenting complaints that visit. I followed up with my primary care doctor who referred me to a neurologist and an ophthalmologist. The neurologist was booked until November. I saw the ophthalmologist on October 6th, 2025 and he found significant swelling in both optic nerves and strongly suspected Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). He told me to go to the ER if my symptoms worsened prior to my neurology appointment. He explained that IIH can lead to permanent vision loss and must be officially diagnosed and treated with a spinal tap. Just two days later, on October 8th, I returned to the BCH Foothills Hospital after four episodes of complete vision loss, along with the worst headache of my life, severe dizziness, and back and neck pain. I was seen by Dr. Shannon Sovndal and gave him a detailed medical history, including my ophthalmologist's findings and his recommendation for a spinal tap. Dr. Sovndal was dismissive, repeatedly interrupted me, and insisted on repeating imaging even though I had just had an MRI at the same facility two weeks earlier. After several hours and additional imaging, he told me everything was "normal" and that there was "nothing wrong." When I explained that my symptoms had worsened and asked again about a spinal tap, he said it was "out of the ER's scope" and that I should wait for my neurology appointment, despite it being a month away. He stated, "if your symptoms get worse, you can come back to the ER. But I don't mean if your symptoms are just bothering you more. I mean if your symptoms are actually progressing." This was extremely frustrating since this was after I had gone completely blind multiple times that day.. if that's not my symptoms progressing, what is? I was sent home again with the same generic headache handout. Feeling unsafe with waiting a month for my neurologist to treat me, I immediately went to UCHealth Broomfield Hospital, where my experience was completely different. Four nurses rushed me back immediately after hearing my symptoms and the ER doctor, Dr. Jessica Mitchell, virtually consulted a neurologist right away. Dr. Mitchell performed a spinal tap and confirmed my intracranial pressure was concerningly high. After removing fluid, I felt instant relief. Dr. Mitchell confirmed the IIH diagnosis and explained that untreated IIH can lead to permanent health issues. Dr. Mitchell asked if I knew why BCH hadn't performed a spinal tap. I told her I had no idea, especially since I had specifically requested one. She appeared visibly surprised and concerned by that answer. Upon discharge from UCHealth, the staff provided me with clear discharge instructions and follow-up recommendations. They told me exactly what symptoms to look out for so I know exactly when to come back to the ER. Dr. Mitchell gave me the information for the neurologist that she consulted with and recommended that I reach out ASAP to schedule an appointment since they know my case and will likely be able to get me seen sooner. I'm deeply disappointed in BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department, especially Dr. Shannon Sovndal, for dismissing a serious and time-sensitive neurological condition.. twice. I'm incredibly grateful to UCHealth, Dr. Mitchell, and her team for listening, acting quickly, and preventing what could have been a permanent outcome. I would not recommend BCH Foothills Hospital to anyone seeking thorough or compassionate emergency care. Go to UCHealth Broomfield instead!

I am not able to go into details, but I was severely traumatized by my visit there due to the lack of compassion, exhibited by staff. My safety was put in jeopardy by the decisions made by the staff that day, Specifically the nurses and physician. I felt bullied and judged and to them It seemed perfectly normal to treat their patients that way. They banded together and ganged up on me with what seemed to be to try to intimidate me. They succeeded as when I left there. I was traumatized,, vulnerable and afraid.

The PA saw me for about 5 minutes, recommended an ultrasound instead of an X-ray and said I should go to the ER instead to get that done. Note it was about 5:50pm when she finally saw me (she probably just wanted to go home since they close at 6 PM) and they ended up giving me ill-fitting crutches and a boot and then I went into the ER close by where I saw an actual doctor. The doctor examined me properly and said he wasn't concerned about a clot. Did the X-ray no problem. This place wasted my money ($150 later) and didn't treat me properly. Would give 0 stars if I could. Do not recommend.

It's the billing - and clinic manager, Veronica, that is the reason for the low rating. I was notified that my bill would be charged on x date for x amount. No way to change the date or anything. Just matter of fact. I emailed billing to see if I could push the date back until after I got paid (the bill was not cheap) and also asked about how they had consent to automatically save and charge my card. Veronica called me and said that "if you had actually read the documents" I would've noticed. As I could barely stand, was dehydrated and in a fever fog, I don't think it's fair to blame me for not being able to go through pages of documents, but fine. Veronica was overall condescending and rude, which for a health care facility, you'd think would be unacceptable. Overall, post-visit has been a very stressful and frustrating time going back and forth with them and I hope they find managers and customer service people who are up for the job.

Unfortunately, since Dr. Hill took over and many of the longtime doctors left, the quality of care has noticeably declined. My experiences with the staff and providers have often felt dismissive and uncaring. Rather than feeling listened to and supported, I have frequently felt brushed off and judged. At times, I have overheard conversations and witnessed interactions that made me uncomfortable and gave me the impression that patients' personal situations were being discussed in an unprofessional manner. I have also been frustrated by unexpected charges and bills that were not clearly explained beforehand. Better communication regarding costs and billing would go a long way toward building trust with patients. I have been dealing with an ongoing health issue that has caused significant anxiety, and when I sought help, Dr. Hill made me feel as though I was wrong for coming in and expressing my concerns. Instead of feeling supported, I left feeling discouraged and unheard. What was once a welcoming and compassionate practice no longer feels that way. Patients deserve to feel heard, respected, and cared for, especially when dealing with ongoing health concerns. I am very disappointed with the direction this office has taken and can no longer recommend this practice based on my recent experiences.
