I was with an American friend accompanying me on a visit back to my family in Ireland. She said her…read morefamily came from Birr Offaly and that she knew they still lived there somewhere. We went to Birr to see if we could possibly track them down. The first place we stopped at was Kelly's pub. We had the best service and ate the best food. The soup was served with fresh homemade brown bread & Irish butter and the cottage pie was served piping hot with a rich flavour that felt not only delicious but nutritious too, The vegetables we were served tasted like they had just been picked. We asked the waitress if she could direct my American friend regarding sources of possible information on her long lost Irish relatives. Before I knew what was happening the owner John drove us to meet her family. He made phone calls, got their address and brought us there himself. I was so proud that my friend got to see the magic of Irish hospitality and selfless acts of kindness towards a stranger. I highly recommend this bar, the owner John, his staff and all customers that helped a stranger find her long lost Irish relatives. #goforthefoodstayforthepeople #ifieverwriteabookthiscouldbeachapter

I went for a cup of seafood chowder to start, followed by the steak sandwich. The chowder was just okay in my opinion. A bit too salty and not as thick as I like it. However, I may be a chowder snob. The steak sandwich in the other hand was unreal! Chunky chips, thick sliced bread and the most tender cut of steak. Perfect for a sandwich. I engulfed all the food. The chips were a winner. Fureys tends to be a busy spot, so you may have to wait to be seated. The staff are amazing and handle your wait really well. We were seated and taken care of really quickly. Definitely worth a visit if you are passing by.

My kids had bbq chicken wings which were awesome and they other had chicken goujons. By far the best chicken finger ( I'm from the USA) I've ever had. Seafood clam chowder was great as well. Small/limited menu - so thing felt fresh and overall was great. We had 8 folks and were able to get a seat. It wasn't overly loud and fairly clean on the inside. Place is a bit rustic, and definitely not modern - highly recommend

Minus points for trying to put ice in my Jameson's. There was a live two piece band on which made it a bit livelier but the front of the bar is quite small and we were edged into a corner. There were 6 celebrating our 50th Birthdays. The stew was he best I had anywhere in Ireland, the music on Wednesday nights was amazing. They invited us to sing! Paddy who leads the music gets everyone involved and the local people that came in to play swelled to almost 20. Out of all we did, being here was exactly what we hoped Ireland memories would be!
