Otherwise the hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location for exploring Ortijia. Right across the street from the street market, and not far from all the other typical tourist destinations, it's a hard place to beat. And a multi-floor room? With two bathrooms? Marble floors & staircase? Outstanding. Corner rooms feature a tub next to the bed too.

Two exceptionally spacious rooms with beautiful bathrooms, high ceilings, stocked refrigerators connected through a perfect hallway that allowed both for privacy and the comfort of togetherness for our younger kids. It was fabulous. The location is lovely in perfect Ortigia, which in and of itself is such a gem. The staff offered many great restaurant recommendations and could not have been more accommodating. The breakfast was excellent - you would be hard pressed to find a person who wasn't delighted by the myriad of offerings. The hotel also has a spacious seating area to relax with wine, water, some juice and little bowls of snacks during the day, which made for a nice area to relax with our kids in the hot afternoons. A couple of teeny tiny quibbles: the tvs were so small they were unusable (wouldn't care normally but we were there during the world cup and the ball was a mere pinprick) and had very few stations, the shower floor was so incredibly slippery that my son took a nasty spill (I almost did as well, so it wasn't kid horsing around) and the parking is more expensive than it should be. The air in one of the rooms ran very cold and refused to adjust, but in a 105 degree heatwave, that was certainly preferable to the alternative. One final quibble - they use some sort of a pod machine for the coffee, which in addition to being environmentally questionable when used on a large scale, it also makes pretty low grade coffee. We'd come to enjoy our morning freshly ground lattes elsewhere, so again, though a minor quibble, I think they should switch to a standard machine to step it up just a notch. We would enthusiastically recommend this hotel to all. It's a real find.

The owners have done an absolutely beautiful job restoring and updating the building. The wide open spaces and minimalist deco amplified the stately nature of entry way. Vitorio, our concierge for the stay, was immensely helpful and very understanding of our limited Italian vocabulary. The rooms are actually quite large by European standards and was just as inviting as the foyer. The bed was more than comfortable (of course, we might have slept so soundly from all the sightseeing that day) and the bathroom equally as impressive. We hope to return soon and when we do, we'll be staying at Hotel Cavalieri.

Henry's House has done a remarkable job in creating a five star hotel out of a picturesque rustic home. The many patios and decks allow you to watch magnificent sunsets over The Ionian Sea. The rooms are large and are filled with Sicilian decor. Nothing has been overlooked. Their breakfast is wonderful and can be enjoyed inside the breakfast room or on the patio. Hotel Henry's house has by far the best service I've received in any hotel anywhere…read more It's a beautiful, rustic boutique hotel with a front row view of the port of Siracusa. It's located on the southern tip of Ortigia island (the nicest area in all of Siracusa) and only a 30 second walk to the historic Castello Maniace. Everything on the island is within walking distance and the staff will help you find things to do and make reservations for you if need be. If you don't speak Italian it's not a problem, everyone here speaks good English. If you bring a car they will take care of parking for you no matter what time of the day or night. They also have a private terrace for guests only that has an epic westward view (sunsets) and you can eat, drink and chill here anytime of day or night (the canopy is covered with a mature grape vine). Breakfast is served every day until 10:30 and it is EPIC. DON't miss it. One day we overslept but they made us two big trays of breakfast to take out on the terrace just in case we were hungry when we woke up. Showers are great. AC works well. Most of the rooms have epic views. The prices are in the middle range between dumpy hotels and **** hotels in the area and WAY worth every penny.

There are spa services offered. Nice breakfast with some daily variation. Try the home made yogurt. Good location, scenic and close to everything but quiet. Ocean view windows are not exactly "wall of glass" style. They're small and set back in ~2 foot thick walls, so you'll have to get close to gaze at the water. Many nice touches, and multiple sitting areas, indoor and out, compensate somewhat for smallish rooms. Helpful staff. Excellent value. Amazingly comfortable bedding.

Yes, it is a classic destination, less known yet Siracusa was a very powerful city-state. Goosies. Yet you come here and you don't get that Sicilians are braggarts. Not at all. They have so many reasons to be proud. You can feel the ancient and privileged life the Siracusans led once you admire many facets of their existence: i architecture, the amazing temples, town center, the pastry shops, mom/pop stores, the open air Greek theater and then Ortigia, the ancient small island at the tip where Domus Mariae is located. There are many hotel choices in Siracusa, some 5 stars, some very high-end. But one of my faves is an older hotel, not so 5 star, Domus Mariae. Domus Mariae used to be a convent. It's a pretty cool building inside and out. The rooms are spartan yet comfy. In fact it's still run by nuns, who make the nice breads, jams and cheeses at breakfast. For visitors, it's an amazing treat to have locally home-made breakfast foods. The staff however are laypeople, like Cinzia, the tiny desk clerk (with the demeanor of a Brooklyn native) who carried all 5 pieces of luggages to 4 rooms with no issues and Francesco the quiet, smiley and attentive bell hop. The staff is amazing here. They made our stay worthwhile and we felt attended to at all times. They made reservations for restaurants, car service, trips and everything you can think of that a concierge will do, they did. But why do I stay here? First we get the sea front rooms for unbelievable sunsets and sunrises. Second, the artisan breakfasts come with the room, you can tell the products were made with care and sensibility. Third, the history of Siracusa is ahhhhhmayzin' so much to know to put in a review. Fourth: Siracusa has probably the best marzipan based cookies (pasta di mandorla), even better than Palermo (the sweets center of Sicily). Fifth, on a beautiful clear day, you can see Malta from here. Hope you enjoy this somewhat relatively unknown town, at least to us Americans. Until now. The LA Times just featured Siracusa on last Sunday's paper. Check it out. You now have a great place to stay. Visits: 3. Yelp=2 Tip: There are no elevators, staff will carry your luggage to your room. Get seafront rooms as this hotel is on the southern side of the island of Ortigia. There are 2 buildings. We stayed in the older building situated across the street from the water. The other building is slightly in back of the other but also have water views. The water tours around Siracusa are beautiful and informative. To get to Siracusa, you can either rent a car in Catania (CTA) airport or train or bus it here. It's cheap to take the train or bus if you don't feel driving. The iPhone maps app worked beautifully all over Sicilia. Driving is easy in Sicily, not frenetic or disorganized like London, Rome or Paris. Finally get full insurance (not cheap) on a car if you rent...it's called piece of mind. If something happens to the car, American Express/Visa will not cover many expenses as the rules in Sicily are "different".

Slippers, bath products, sewing kits, shoe shine sponges, soft blankets, and an assortment of pillows. We walked the entire Island, the side streets, and watched beautiful sunsets. Loads of authentic food restaurants, and shopping artisan finds! Boat rides, and an hour from horseback riding! The vibe was a bit period which we LOVED. Can't wait to go back!!

Hotel Royal Maniace is situated on the "wrong side" of Ortegia, but if you want the evenings to be calm, while you sit on your terrace, choose this hotel. It is a fairly small modern hotel in an old beautiful building. No extravaganza but personal and professionally run. Though, the breakfast could be slightly improved. The guests are often people with social and cultural interests and preferences. This gives the hotel its personality, which is something of great quality to more and more of us. Hotel Royal Maniace is a good base for a stay in beautiful Siracusa.
