This hotel and it staff supersedes your expectations. The lobby smells amazing. The food is spectacular and the rooms are exactly what you need to transport you into rest and ease, while keeping the vibe, light and artsy.

Nice area, great and beautiful inside, excellent cleaning, very kind and wonderful staff, terrible management. The staff was very pleasant and kind especially Cara and Shabora who worked this morning at 7am for breakfast buffet at the Hotel Restaurant. The front desk African America female clerk when we checked in on Friday June 23rd at 8pm was extremely pleasant as well. It's a shame this property simple isn't well managed in my opinion. Now I only stayed the one night, but I'm a marriot junkie and I also work at a hotel/casino. There are clear signs of incredible mismanagement. The hotel desk clerk was working all on her own for hours all night: delivering items to guests rooms, answering phone calls, dealing with rude guests, and fixing problems all on her own with no help in sight. This should never happen. It's up to upper and mid management levels to ensure the integrity of the business with sufficient resources including human capital. The restaurant stated it would open at 7am, and it even allows you to make reservations online on open table. I don't know if the restaurant has integrated the app fully into their system, but if they haven't then they shouldn't have the restaurant listed in the app in the first place. The restaurant wasn't open and ready at 7am. That's a huge nope. Always be on time for guests. Timing is everything. That's not in the employees; that's on management. Employees need to either be scheduled to clock in earlier, given more help to get ready, or review their processes so that managers can assist them. Very excellent aesthetics, but overall a mediocre performance imo and needs vast improvement on the performance of the management team and working with their employees so that a smooth stay for guests happens. There were times I would see guests waiting long periods of time at the front desk and no one was there because the line clerk had to fix problems for some other guest somewhere else. Same with the phone jt was ringing off the hook and no one was their to answer that. She desperately needed help and shouldn't be forced into this. Ad situation.

Quiet village for relaxing and celebrating graduation. This proud mom pleased to park car and enjoy the attached gallery, pool, restaurant and cooking school. Easy walk to green wise grocery, Santos coffee, Jeni's splendid ice creams and more.

I had the pleasure of grabbing dinner and drinks on the Rooftop bar last night. The staff was unbelievably nice and helpful. The decor upstairs reminded me of Alice in Wonderland meets the Moulin Rouge. You can sit inside or outside and we had live music. My only complaint is it took awhile to get my food. I ordered Summer tomato gazpacho with a side of grilled summer vegetables. The food was amazing but on the pricey side. The cup of soup was $9 and the aides were $15. I highly recommend but do not see myself going often due to the price. Good for a treat yo self kind of evening. PS- their version of the Moscow mule was awesome!!!

Empty glasses everywhere

I was so excited to visit this place but was unfortunately a total miss for me. I'm not sure I've ever waited so long to get a drink than I did at this place. Once I arrived to meet up with a group of people I was shocked to hear that they had been sitting there close to 15 minutes and still had not received their drinks! After about 20 minutes I went inside to see what was going on. There was our waitress standing next to the drinks but talking to the bartender. Even after asking about the drinks it still took another 5 minutes for her to bring it out. And that's how it went for the rest of the night. And from working in the bar/restaurant industry there is one thing that I can't stand... is having empty glasses everywhere and not being cleaned up (I've added a picture) For this to be a nice "classy" restaurant, they have totally missed it. I really do hate giving these types of reviews but this experience was just too bad to let it go. Hopefully they step their game up because this place could be fantastic.

No wonder it took so long to find my car ....

Definitely not ready for prime time. in fact, they should go back to square 0 and start over. the Grand Bohemian is a brand. Wait. let me address that again - the Grand Bohemian is part of the MARRIOTT brand. there should not be ANY "grand opening jitters" allowed. they should have this down. what a disaster. the building itself is sad. it's huge and doesn't fit nicely into the mountain brook theme. the $35m did not account for making a SMALL attempt to fit in to the surroundings. my architect friend noted the "fake half roofs only meant to be viewed from one angle" - and I agree! for that money, and for that village, i would expect more. the interior decor is something out of 1999 - as in PRINCE's 1999. purple and gold and bright and shiny. when i say "bright" (and shiny) i mean it. they got confused about the direction they were going when they designed the space - it's like they wanted to have an open kitchen but forgot to account for it when they did the lighting. all the fluorescent lighting is a bit bright for a contemporary intimate setting. it was unnerving to eat dinner! the staff is a joke. i can't tell how many hipster dudes in slim cut suits (c'mon guys - do you ALL have to look the same - get a little creativity going here) were lingering around to "help" but it seemed like at least 7 in the bar area. but they weren't talking to the guests - they were just lingering around. what started as an evening of cocktails, ended up being cocktails and dinner ... eventually. however, we weren't sure that we were going to get a table when we got there. we were told that they were booked for the evening - even though most tables were empty. then we were told that they might be able to fit us in. the bar wait staff was equally out in left field - every time we'd order drink, shed bring one, then bring the next one - and not in any timely fashion either. i don't think we were ever able to have a proper salute with our dining companions! it was a mess. the dinner menu looked good, but the food is a huge miss - presentation and taste. i had a blob of mashed sweet potatoes with a piece of fish that was a dense as a brick. others at the table had the shrimp and grits - 2 shrimp and 2 scallops on a small potion of grits, and another guest had the boar chops - seems they might need to re-name that dish "wee little piggy chops". when we elected not to have the head cheese on our cheese plate, our wait person didn't bother to offer something else in its place. wait ... what? And then ... the wine list was embarrassing - i'll bite double the bottle price - some great places we ate at in NYC even did 2.5 - but this place wants to jack you for 3x retail. thats insulting. sad to say (because we all had such high hopes for this place), to sum it up - the Grand Bo needs to start over from scratch on this one.

Rooftop outdoor bar area, a show stopper!

When we got to our room we were amazed on how big the space was. We all had plenty of room so there was no overlapping of space between 3 people and there was plenty of nearby restaurants that we were able to walk to and Railroad Park to enjoy a day in the sun. The breakfast was good considering it was the holidays and the mini store was reasonably priced. My wife said that she would love to make this our regular hotel whenever we come in town. Great job!

The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

The room overlooked a couple of buildings but it was a nice view to see some of the local businesses. We saw many apartments in the area from our window view. The room was nice and quiet and the hotel was as well (except for our children lol). There were double dark room shades in the room to ensure the daylight would not disturb our sleep. The tub was spacious and the room had a very nice long table to utilize. There was a mini fridge, microwave and keurig that were nice to have. The room was clean upon arrival and our check in was nice, quick and convenient thanks to the mobile app. The staff has been very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Even when they were very busy, they made sure the experience was nice. They went over and above to ensure our comfort.

I don't think we will be staying here again despite having stayed here every year for the past four years.

The small couch in the main bedroom was a statement piece, but not exactly inviting. But overall the rooms were interesting. Breakfast didn't seem to be very popular when we were there as there weren't many guests at it, and they didn't deliver the cash box timely so paying with cash was an ordeal. The rooftop bar was a nice place to sit and quiet enough to have a conversation. The view over the city was nice to have, although not especially exciting. Valet parking was quick and easy, and the only option. It was conveniently located downtown with a bunch of food options around, including coffee shops. I wish I'd gotten a receipt as I left rather than waiting for an email because the email hadn't come by two days after, and the stay wasn't showing up in the app--not great, Marriott. When I called to get it I was on hold for quite a while--revising my review to lower from 4 stars for being adequate to good, to 3 stars because I had to wait in hold for over 16 minutes two days after my stay to get someone there on the phone to send me the bill for my stay, when it should have been sent immediately after I check out and automatically. The stay turned into a hassle with no respect for my time.

Honestly, the room felt more like low-budget hotel quality, and I would have rather stayed at a Holiday Inn for a fraction of the price. The bed was hands down the worst hotel bed I have ever slept in. The mattress and pillow-top were sunken in, with absolutely no support. I woke up with my body hurting, and the pain continued throughout our stay. I was in Birmingham for a music festival, and the bed ended up affecting the entire trip. I was in so much pain that I couldn't stand all day and had to leave the festival early just to go back to the hotel and lie down. Unfortunately, that meant going back to the same awful bed. The rest of the room wasn't much better. The towels were frayed and looked very old, and there were only two towels for two adults staying three nights. I had to ask housekeeping for more. The curtains were dirty, the full-length mirror was broken and dirty, the wallpaper was peeling, and the mini fridge was hanging out of its cubby. I also stepped on a carpet staple where the carpet meets the tile, with the carpet fraying around it. The road noise was pretty bad. I understand the hotel can't control traffic, but earplugs or a sound machine would go a long way toward helping guests sleep. The bathroom lighting was also too dim, although I did appreciate the makeup mirror tucked away in the closet. We chose not to bring these issues to the front desk during our stay because we didn't want the hassle of changing rooms or having people in our room while we were out. However, the overall condition of the room was disappointing regardless. Autograph Collection is supposed to offer a distinctive hotel experience, and this stay fell well short of my expectations. Between the lack of comfort, the maintenance issues, and the overall condition of the room, the price simply wasn't justified. The bed alone significantly affected our ability to enjoy a trip we had planned around a music festival. I would have been happier spending less money at a Holiday Inn, and I would have a hard time justifying staying here again.

Being a Marriott loyalist, I have certain expectations for them but being a low tiered member for Hilton, I'm just happy for basics being covered. Upon arrival, I was beyond elated to see so much free street parking in the vicinity. Yes, they offer valet but I'd much rather got a less expensive route, to boot, I could see my car from the room all weekend. The valet, doorman and front desk agent were all super nice. We got checked in and made it to our room. Yes, this is an old building, it's in fact, the oldest operating hotel in all of Birmingham! We loved the historic feel of it. The layout, like others, was weird. The elevators were small and the light up display showcasing what floor you were on, didn't always work in one. We had a room near the elevators, normally I ask against this but again, I'm checking my privilege. The location of this hotel is downtown but on the outskirts. That means it's far away enough from the highways to not hear them. It's also close enough to restaurants, that it's not a far walk or drive. We didn't partake in any F&B outlets other than asking for wine glasses. Our room was turned down while there, which is not the norm as my honey doesn't like folks in our room. I was pleased to see everything was restocked. We also checked out Roof, their rooftop bar, but it's not very big and we had already had a full day.

The hotel has parking, but there is also parking across the street for a fraction of the cost. It was about ten dollars for twelve hours or twenty dollars for twenty four hours, so that is worth knowing if you are trying to save a little money. The location is another major plus. It is very central and walkable. I used Yelp to find several restaurants nearby and was able to walk downtown to different spots without any problem. That convenience really adds value to the stay. I even stopped by the bar and they were kind enough to give me ice and help me out there too. Honestly, the staff here are so nice that it really pushes the experience up for me. In my head this is about four and a half stars, and on Yelp I am happy to round that up to 5 stars.
