They are practicing Mexican Gas Station Scam. We were relatively excited while we booked on Hotel Uxmal Resort Maya, the rate was good, and it was "Pay on arrival" booking, very friendly. However, one day before our arrival, The hotel message us "due to credit card issue" they canceled our "Pay on arrival" reservation. We were driving through Yucatán jungle, no good internet bandwidth and phone connection, Expedia asking us to call hotel direct, however, 10:30, 11:00 am, no one answering the phone at hotel. " If you wish to stay with us, please book it again." They message us. Out of panicking, we try to book the Hotel again the first moment we have better WiFi available. But the rate is higher, and it is a prepaid model. And it went through with the same credit card we have with Expedia. We called Expedia on 7:30 that night, no manager available. They ask us to call back tomorrow morning. Second day morning, we called again and hotel told us the "canceled reservation" was never canceled. But the second "prepaid" reservation is " not refundable." For us, it is doesn't make sense the same credit was not good at "Pay on arrival" reservation but has no problem at "Prepaid" reservation. We spent total 9 hours try to reason with the Hotel, no manager on site even on 4:30 pm when we checked-in. The room is totally a disaster. Room with good view has no WiFi, the room with WiFi we don't want to go. Restaurant had no light turned on, weaving chairs inside the room with 2x10 inches holes. ( Meaningless for Covid-19 measures.) Bathroom still with previous guess's hair gel or some sort of. We called the Expedia again and asking for full refund since the room is just horrible, none of their solution we want to accept. Hotel promised " Marianne will call you back and give you a satisfied answer. " Well, 3 weeks past, we still hear nothing. At the end, we fled the horrible place, drove another 3 miles down to the Uxmal Archeology site, stayed with Mayaland affiliated hotel, with 4-5 stars setting, and the same price the horrible Resort Maya tried to charge us. read more
