After eating nearby, my friend wanted to check out the casino so we dropped in. On Tueday morning it was decently crowded. Men have to wear jackets and if you dont have one theyll lone you one. Also i know this is weird but up to this point i saw no Asians in Austria and suddenly there were a ton here. I guess the stereotype rings true. We actually sat at the bar before blowing a small teaser chip amount on roulette while i just watched. The decor is super 70s. In another building there's a room where they filmed one of the Daniel Craig James Bond scenes my friend says. Now that would gave been cool but i guess you cant hang there at 2am on Tuesadays

There is a large outdoor terrace in a garden like setting that I chose to sit at for my meal. Unfortunately, I felt a bit forgotten out there, as I think only one person was serving the entire area. IT took quite awhile to place my order and get my food. By the time I got my food it was cold. For the prices in the menu, I was a bit underwhelmed by my food. I wouldn't go back here again. The menu is typical local Appenzell Swiss specialties.

It is also very quiet, despite the central location. One of the main "pluses" of the hotel is the very pleasant rooftop spa area but don't let yourselves be tricked by the term "infinity pool" used in the hotel description, because what they have up there is just a large jakuzzi. The spa are in the basement is less nice, it's not very relaxing due to the very bright spotlights, the pool is tiny. I had lunch at the restaurant and I wasn't very impressed, I think it's expensive and the quality medium. Maybe the dinner menu is more appealing.. All in all I think this place deserves 4 stars

First the cons, parking is a bit far but manageable..however I was told via email to pull up to the building to unload. The building is in a pedestrian area, so this makes that hard. Secondly, to be seated in the restaurant for dinner a simple button up and kakis will not due. My wife and I got back from a day trip and decided to eat at the hotel, after asking for a table for two we were given a hard look by the hostess then told there were no tables (about half the tables were empty). Better pack your tux. Lastly the rooms are tad on the small side but I am hesitant to list this as a "con" since this is a historic hotel. Pros: great location, very cool environment, very helpfully staff! Over all it was a nice stay despite the few cons. If you are traveling by rail it is an easy walk to the hotel.

This hotel was quite accommodating and the staff was very friendly. The room was a bit on the small side, but then again most European hotel rooms are small in comparison to the US, and it was just me staying by myself. Plus, the point is to get out and see the city, not stay in your room! The breakfast here is GREAT. If this were just a breakfast restaurant it would get 4 stars alone just for that. I hope to come back some day.
