My friends have thought all along that because it's a hotel - it might be more fancy or expensive than is desirable for locals... but it was neither. The atmosphere is classic Austrian 'at home' comfortable. The décor is in the traditional styling, but new and very clean. The dining room is fairly large. There is a complimentary coat check from a very nice hostess. The menu was robust with classic Austrian fare. The service was very good and wifi was free. Prices pretty reasonable, and with exception to our friend's meal not being exactly what she anticipated, the food was very good and the portions plentiful. Extensive wine list. Unfortunately there is not a lot available for the vegetarians, sorry. Service was quick and we felt at home: not pushed or rushed in any way, which is nice. But none have felt like home the way Hotel Goldener Hirsch does. The hospitality is exceptional. Warm, attentive and genuine. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel not just welcomed, but cared for. Our room was beautifully appointed, with a view overlooking the Pferdeschwemme. It was comfortable in that rare way that makes you want to unpack, settle in and stay a while. Breakfast service delivered to our room each morning allowed us to ease into the day with quiet and comfort. In the evenings, we found ourselves at the hotel bar both before and after dinner, drawn in by the atmosphere and the incredibly welcoming bartender. I wish I had gotten his name. His professionalism, beautiful cocktails and way of making everyone feel like a regular added a layer of warmth that made those evenings feel special. I'm going to return. Hotel Goldener Hirsch is more than a luxury property. It's where we'll return, again and again, because it feels like coming home.

It is typical German/Austrian cuisine. The only reason this got four stars and not five stars is because the boss/manager of the restaurant is a jerk. He made us pay for a soup we did not order. He insisted that were ordered noodle soup while we ordered goulash soup. He did bring us the goulash soup but left the noodle soup at the table because he insisted we ordered it. We're on vacation and I did not want to get into a fight. So we took turns eating the noodle soup. I must say that it was good. When it came time to pay I left no tip. I think this is the first time I ever did this in my life. I would recommend this place to Americans. I just want them to know that it is not you and the manager is a jerk and don't let it bother you. The manger is an adult male about 60 years old and a little bit on the husky side.
