Of the restaurants found on Yelp, outback had the most reviews, 7. Also, it's the only well known chain restaurant, so we found our way here for dinner! On the way there, I was wary of the quiet and barren streets and the lack of restaurants and stores, but at last, we made it! All the food in Switzerland are so expensive (coming from an American) plus that currency difference! But the food is not bad. I got Bruschetta and wings because it was all you can eat wings on Monday nights. The wings had meat and wasn't fat, which is the best! And the flavors of the sauce was well mixed! The bruschetta was a little troublesome. The waitress forgot my order and didn't take it out until 10 min after all my friends got their dish!! I even asked and reminded her two times, but she forgot or was busy serving other customers. For all the options you have in this town, this Outback is not bad, especially since it closes at 10 in compared to others that close earlier.

I think of Hotel Neufeld as a quintessential European hotel - as basic as can be, still comforting,…read moreold-fashioned elevator, no central air, and the tiniest bathroom in the world. I've now stayed in the Hotel Neufeld three times, and am never disappointed to be back. Thankfully I'm not paying the bill - a little pricey for such a basic hotel. Such is Switzerland... Attached to the hotel is the restaurant Pop-Corn. Funny name for Swiss restaurant! I've only had the breakfast buffet, which comes included in each night you stay at the hotel. What a wonderful introduction to a real Swiss breakfast - multiple selections of cheeses, a slew of baked breads, jams, juices, fruit, yogurt, muesli, and cereal. It's hard not to completely overdo it on a breakfast like this. As I write this, I need to jump in the teeny shower and get clean...

Four of us came for a weeknight dinner. We shared two starter salads and ordered four pastas and…read morefour glasses of wine. The total for the dinner was 180 CHF. I cite this figure in order to give potential diners some idea of what a dinner at MASI will cost. (The price is actually more or less average for this area of Zürich; things don't come cheap in this town.) We spoke mostly English (and some German) to our server and had little problem with communication. Dinner was okay but we had more fun at Più, which is cheaper and more informal.

I have to say, we had a brilliant dinner at the Masi last Friday. The evening began with a very…read morefriendly welcome - as if we were visiting good friends or family. Italianità at its best. Then... dinner: Someone is putting a lot of love and care into their work in the kitchen. We had a buttery smooth and delicate tartar of beef with truffle shavings, which matched perfectly. Then I had pappardelle al ragù, with a beautifully flavourful sauce and obviously freshly-made pasta (cooked just right), and my wife had scampi on a risotto base. Both total conversation-stoppers, as we both concentrated on enjoying the dishes. The main was a fish dish for my wife (which she said was also excellent) and a fantastic tournedos-style beef fillet for me, cooked exactly as I asked.(which seldom happens). We both shared risotto which managed to hit the sweet spot between the individual grains still having a lovely texture and still be light and creamy, without feeling at all heavy. Damn - I wish my risotto would work out like that! Dessert was just a fabulous. I read Andrea's review (in German), and I have to say, things have changed. Andrea: Give Masi's another try. You won't be disappointed. I know I have a new favourite restaurant in Zurich. And Masi's has a new fan.

The veal schnitzel was tender and juicy but needed more lingonberry sauce which they happily brought when I asked for it. Hubby had the elk goulash and said it def needed more sauce. Unfortunately great things is not what I got. Instead I got very overpriced, below average food. I ordered the veal cutlet which was 42 CHF which is $47 and 3/4ths of the plate was essentially fried potatoes. You might think I'm exaggerating, but I implore you to check the picture. In the US any $47 meat dish would be 3/4th meat, 1/4th potato. Yes I understand it's some kind of traditional Swiss Rösti, but it tastes like fried potatoes. In fact I could only eat a little bit of it because it started to bother my stomach. The veal cutlet itself was decent. It could've been more tender and the flavor was decent. Nothing special and certainly not worth 47 CHF. I will give credit where credit is due though. The two cherry tomatoes included with the dish were quite exceptional. They were literally bursting with flavor and very fresh. I could've eaten ten more. This was unfortunately the exception. The chocolate lava cake was quite good. Perhaps the best chocolate lava cake I've had so far in my 4 month stint in Europe. It was very chocolatey and the middle had that chocolate oomph you'd expect from a top chocolate producer like Switzerland. Overall I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you enjoy getting fleeced. Price is usually not such a sticking point for me, but I was just so shocked by the $47 plate that was mostly potatoes. Save your tastebuds and your wallet and look else where.
