For over 4 weeks, my friend and mentor and I have been trying to cancel fully refundable reservations made this past March to see his half-sister for 5 days in late Sept and Oct. they're both unable to go due to hip and knee replacements and medical complications that have resulted. Despite notifying the hotel of our desire to cancel the reservations over 4 weeks before the 3-week cancellation deadline, Hotel Playa Victoria refuses to honor the cancellation without full rate penalty, notwithstanding the clear terms in their written confirmation. They offer alternative dates, but my friend is immobile and may never travel overseas again. A hotel that refuses to honor the refundable reservation terms they provided in writing while insisting they can accommodate him at a later date (when he may never travel overseas again), is not helpful and only causes further distress.
